Which enemies are redeemable?

What enemies are we willing to accept as allies? In what circumstances will you fight beside someone who tried to kill you? Yesterday, I was playing some D1 while I waited for my supper in the oven. Doing a patrol on Venus, I killed a bunch of fallen, then the taken started invading. The Taken attacked both myself and the surviving vandal. I killed all the taken and left the vandal alive (who will inevitably be killed by the next Guardian). This reminded me of the story of Cade with the Exile Baron. Enemies until something worse shows up. It's interesting to see an enemy make that decision, though I usually think it comes out of mutual will to survive. In Halo, we saw Covenant, who genocidally murdered humans, abandoned such convictions the moment they were trapped in a facility with flood. Most ironically, we saw the elites go from antagonists to allies after being betrayed by the brutes. Many are likely unaware, but Mithrax was first encountered as an enemy. He is the only known, to me, example of an enemy who switches to friendly after the mutual enemy is killed. And now he's gone on to become a fully committed ally. Caitl I hardly considered an enemy beforehand because contlict only occurred after peace was refused. More interesting, however, is that Saldin claims that some of Caitl's people are former Red Legion who had sacked the tower. I'm sure there are many more examples. What I wonder is, what are people willing to look past? To forgive? The world is rarely so simple, black and white. Do you seek to defeat your enemy or destroy them? I can see humanity as allies to Cabal as, frankly, I believe the two are quite similar. When Torobatl was lost, I think an alliance with the Cabal made a lot of sense, and I think it would be really cool if humanity were to go on and help Cabal retake their world. The Cabal and Fallen are probably also the most relatable despite how alien they are. They are both very much made up of individuals, guided by their own personal interests and capable of disagreement. In Lightfall, Caitl and Calus even make appeals to the other soldiers to switch sides, which I thought was pretty cool because it doesn't just go with "you picked the wrong side now we're going to kill you all". It's a game, and oftentimes, we don't think about it, but is every foe we kill truly evil? Now, with Season of the Deep, we are faced with the choice that we must bring back Savathun if we are to defeat Xivu Arath. Savathun, who was our enemy for most of Destiny 2. The one behind the harvested Guardians on Titan, I believe she was responsible for the taken in the dreaming city but not sure, and with certainty, she was responsible for directing the Hidden Swarm on Luna, manipulating them into building the Scarlet Keep. Even after she turned against the Witness, officially, she didn't stop being our enemy. The purpose of the Lucent Hive on the moon was to set up a base of operations to invade earth. Savathun may be an ally of the Traveler, but she has not been an ally of humanity. Don't get me wrong, I think the idea of a Hive redemption arc is very interesting. I just don't trust Savathun, and to me, the Hive cannot be redeemed so long as they remain bound to the worms. That was a long piece, so of you got through all that good for you. I think it would be cool to get an "arbiter-style", former foe character. These are just my thoughts. I'm just curious what other people think, or I guess if other people actually think about the stuff we're shooting at.
