I'm just curious. I've never played an extraction shooter. If its strictly PvP, there is no way I'm going to get it.

It is, therefore it is

Promo says there is a persistent environment, which I take to mean that there's only one map. You run out and find crap and other people try to kill you, at which time you lose said crap. You only get to keep the crap if you run back to a specific point. Sounds boring as crap to me. I'm solo PvE. I'm not buying a new console to play it so it matters not to me what it's actually going to be like in reality.

Ever play DMZ in the new CoD MW2? Its gonna be sorta like that, but instead of being a game-mode Marathon is entirely an extraction-shooter game (better examples would be: Escape from Tarkov, Vigor). I would assume it has Enemy NPC Aliens for PVE elements based around the lore, while being mostly a PVP-themed extraction-shooter game...
I mentioned the game Vigor, (if I remember it correctly) mainly because although it may claim to be a looter shooter it is a F2P PVP type of game, which seems to fit the extraction-shooter mantra of get in, fight, get loot, extract.
It would be PvPvE

It'd be very strange to market it as Marathon and not even have the Pfhor in it.

Neither. It’s more of a tower defense game where you run around picking up frogs before they have a chance to blast your vent core.
