This has to be the most tone deaf response I've ever seen from Bungie.
"This is an area of the game with lower engagement that would take resources away from more popular parts of the game to shore up." is fancy wording for "We don't care about fixing the mess we made and we now want it to die instead of fixing it." The audacity to hear people asking Bungie to fix Gambit for years only to tell them that they are actively trying to get less people to play it.
Removing Freelance and replacing it with Fireteam is just another way for them to reduce player count now that you are forced to deal with full fireteams if you decide to solo queue.
Bringing back Cathedral of Stars is nice but it should have never been removed from the map pool in the first place.
The only silver lining to this awful news is lucent hive and shadow legion.
The reason Gambit has a smaller player base is that Bungie broke Gambit and never decided to fix it for years.
If they have all these resources to add new maps, mechanics, matchmaking changes, and game modes to crucible. They had all this time to fix the Motes falling into the floor for two years.

Edited by SixDFT: 8/4/2023 12:10:58 PMThey could at least let us have the old weapons (whatever the fun shotgun was called, Hush but most importantly 21% Delirium) back before they mail the lid shut. (Edited to make the machine gun typo 1% more accurate :) )

People can argue forever, but their insane stubborn resistance to really balance invaders killed the mode a long time ago.

*Bungie fuses Gambit and Gambit Prime into something with the worst of both* "Gambit just doesn't have the player engagement"

Agreed. As someone who likes playing gambit it really sucks and sounds really stupid that bungie will not update it with things like new maps and adept weapons like players have been asking for(or fix the sinking motes) which could actually increase player population simply because it has a low population🤔.

I for one am appalled!

They at no point asked us what we want or even listened to us. All we want is Prime back.. and fix the heavy amount economy. Gambit players: 1/ Leave Prime Game Mode in the game 2/ Address the heavy ammo economy but reducing it somehow.. (Just make it so heavy ammo only drops from High Value target, as an example) Bungie: 1/ Deleted Prime, and replaces it with a washed out version of OG Gambit 2/ Floods the Heavy Ammo Economy 3/ Removes 40% of the maps 4/ Wonders why the mode is dying.. We never asked for this weird version of Gambit, that got landed on us. (which is the weakest version we've seen so far.) Personally thing Bungie should bring in a 3rd party like they did back in the day with Vicarious Visions Studio. With the sole vision to make PvP maps and game modes for crucible. And to undo what they did to Gambit. I think the whole community is unhappy with Bungie how they are apparently strained for resources to invest in these areas of the game. When they are making more money then ever before. So hand the task to a capable team that are passionate about returning the game to an enjoyable state. The newer content has been fun recently, but there is clearly no effort being put into the ritual stuff to keep us around. And this SOTG has confirmed our thoughts on this. Even Anthem had a team towards the end trying to make changes to help things, us Gambit player's ain't even getting that..

Yeah it was kind of laughable. They throw in several changes to Gambit, most of which made the mode worse that Gambit fans didn’t ask for, abandoned the mode for 2 years, didn’t add any maps in 4 years and counting, and wonder why the needle didn’t move. And since making the mode less fun and abandoning it didn’t make the mode more popular they’re just going to make it so you a person doesn’t need to play it at all. It’s the meme with the hotdog car crashed into a store and the guy in a hotdog suit. We can’t figure out who killed Gambit or why it’s not possible. Well, better just give up even more. lol
