So maybe I'm missing a key point here, but if you have to unlock the exotic in your collections to focus decode it, which would allow you to claim it with legendary shards, why would you waste two exotic engrams and an ascendant shard on focused decoding exactly? Cause I don't see the point. I could see it if it would allow me to narrow down what I am claiming to be in the pool of the item I want, or allowing me to get the exact exotic I want, but if I can't do either of those and can only either go RNG or claim from a pool of items when I have that entire pool, why would I not just RNG?

That’s a good point.

You're right. You are missing the point. The point of exotic focusing is an alternative from beating your head against a wall for a chance at getting the right exotic arm you want in a given lost sector. Get pranked, it's Aeon Safe again. You have to discover it first to focus it, that's literally how it's always been, you could NEVER pull an unknown exotic from collections before.
-
Not worth your time. Shitty rng and waste of resources.
-
The point of focusing is NOT to unlock new exotics, it’s to get a better of an already unlocked exotic. Do lost sectors and blitz events to unlock all exotics (and never do them again) then use focusing to get better rolls. This new system is better than nothing but bungie really should have just brought back glass needles instead.
-
I Dont , not yet so far, I found it a waste of resources
-
Tried it once. I'll never do it again.
-
I just wonder who the intended audience was for this whole system? New lights won’t have the resources to use and veterans will likely already have master worked exotics used in builds. If it focused into actual good stats rather then what bungie considers high, I could see it working with new exotics if you have golf balls to burn but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ll probably check back with it next season after they had a chance to “fix” it.

You're misunderstanding the currency cost and the purpose of exotic focusing. The green numbers are what you have in your inventory, meaning you currently have two exotic engrams. The white number is the cost, which is 1 exotic engram. The Witch Queen engram you are hovering over does narrow down the pool of exotics you can get. You can also tab over to another page on the focusing screen to pick the exact exotic you want to focus that you have obtained before. The reason you wouldn't just leave it up completely to RNG is because you would be randomly getting an exotic from all five years of Destiny as opposed to focusing a Witch Queen engram with 5 exotics. Did that make sense?

Edited by Týr-Skadi: 5/27/2023 7:35:19 AMHmm. I thought it was for the new lights, so they can get exotics too. But now that you told me that you first have to unlock them: it's pointless. Unless lets say you want a certain exotic with good stats. Normally you have to wait till it drops, but world drops and sectors also dropped other exotics. So you had to wait untill that certain exotic dropped and also had to hope for good stats. Now you can choose that one, so you have a faster chance for good stats. That is: if the engrams give higher stat ones. Which i dont know.

Well, I have pretty garbage luck with exotics from random drops. Not only did it take me MONTHS to get a SECOND contraverse hold, but BOTH of them had trash stats. High mobility? High resil?? When I'm literally running Discipline Armorer on my ghost?? So like, being able to save up exotic engrams (especially with the increased drop rate now!) and focus into Contraverse Holds, it's super nice to me cause I don't have to worry about sectors dropping every other type of gauntlet, AND I don't have to wait for sectors to BE gauntlets, on top of the fact that if I don't like the roll I get, it's no big deal to me cause again, exotic engrams have been dropping like candy lately. It's really just for the sake of focusing for stat farming, and for people like me who have such trash luck in getting what we want, it's a godsend. We only need to get it once, then we can just farm engrams to play slots with them until we get the roll we want.

We have a winner!

Just forget about exotic focusing altogether. It’s trash. Worthless. Better to farm lost sectors now.
