Similar to the case with "In the Deep" mission of Shadowkeep, the "Pit of Heresy" mission that is required for you to complete in "The Journey" quest - Step 3 of 6, causes the game to crash a few minutes into the encounter. For those of you that aren't aware, "The Journey" quest is required to get the exotic solar machine gun - Xenophage, a quite popular Heavy Weapon within the game.
After reading some reddit forums like one that was made yesterday, it seems like it is affecting players with higher frame rate, which would then include PS5, Series S, Series X, PC players, etc.
This is looking pretty bad and I think the best bypass would be to get a second and/or third player to do this part with you as I did to bypass the bug for "In the Deep". You will get game crashes frequently, but your friend/random player can send you an invite and/or you can join them over and over again and eventually just be there for the last part before the mission ends, so you get the Quest progression.
Very Disappointed in Bungie that we cannot get dated DLC packages to work the way they were intended. I know a lot of people want the Xenophage, so this is a dealbreaker for those of us who can't get through this bug.
Please try with an additional teammate and see if that helps. Cheers, folks.

I just read about turning off 3d audio which I tried quickly on PS5 and I got to the first encounter without any crashes. I will check it out later and hopefully it's just going to need an audio fix from the devs

I had the same issues last night on PS5 and Xbox. Tried moving it to my internal drive from my external on PS5 and still crashed so went Xbox and crashed before I had even gotten to the first rally flag. My PS5 friend was crashing too. I have Xeno but I haven't ran the whole dungeon yet. I reset the dungeon a few time and it crashed still so no idea what's happening here

I used Nvidias GeForce Now to get to the boss as I couldn't progress due to the crashes on Steam/Epic.
