Progression and access to harder content should be based on in-game accomplishments; not power level.
For example, think about this.
1. Beating the story gives access to the raid.
2. Beating the normal version of the raid and demonstrating knowledge of the machanics gives access to a higher difficulty version of the raid with better rewards.
3. Beating that version of the raid gives access to the hardest version of the raid, which drops the most prestigious rewards.
Take Root of Nightmares, for example. Let's say completing the Lightfall campaign gives access to Root. Now, in each encounter, there is a set of triumphs explicately tied to each mechanic (hidden until after world's first, of course), and upon completion of those triumphs and the raid, you get access to the next difficulty.
The next difficulty drops crafting and masterworking materials and artiface armor, but the enemies hit harder, have more health, and there are additional modifiers on. Kinda like "Legend" now.
Upon completing that version, you have access to the "Master" raid. The master raid drops adepts from every chest, high stat artiface armor, more materials, and cosmetics (armor ornaments, shader, ship, sparrow, etc.). It is also guaranteed to drop the exotic. However, this version is even more difficult and has additional mechanics.
You could apply this to dungeons and grandmaster nightfalls as well.
This system of progression is purely based on player accomplishments, rather than some number next to their helmet.
Edit: Yes. In Season of the Deep, the power and pinnacle caps are planned to remain the same. But this does not alleviate the rather monotonous and heavily RNG dependent grind that is pinnacle leveling for new and returning players.

I hope they drop gating access to content altogether, the guardian rank should provide benefits and boosts not gate access to content we all pay for. I really hope next season is focused on an enjoyable play experience where we are chasing gear and trying builds out rather than being forced into them. Just drop content gating completely.

I have to disagree. The power progression thing has been around since the first game and basically meant that with every level you're getting stronger, which plays into that power fantasy. As to progression based content, I don't see this being a thing nor would it help the game. It would lock Grandmasters for everyone making it almost impossible for the average joe to get an adept weapon.

It’s been leaked that power level will be getting overhauled next season or the one after. I’m really excited for this personally. Power level is not need when we have so many other ways of progression. We already have vendor ranks, battlepass, and artifact leveling.
-
We should have access to everything we PAID for ok? No requirements, no light lvl, full access all the time. If you are good enough, you succeed, if not, you fail. Plain and very simple. I want to do master whatever, but I can’t until I level up. What? I can’t do something in a game that I PAID for? Come on. Free us Bungie, let us do whatever we want, all the time, any time.

Edited by FataLVisioN_Oo: 3/30/2023 8:00:42 PMWasn't D1 kind of like that? If I remember right didn't you have to have a normal raid clear before you could attempt the harder version? I may be wrong, it's been a long time 🤷♂️ Grinding light level every 3 months has made me lose all joy in the game.

REMOVE POWER LEVEL ADVANTAGES FROM TRIALS
-
I disagree. I enjoy a power level grind once per year during the expansions. Bungie is already removing it for the seasons. Which I think is going to blow up in their faces when so many people stop playing the game because they've ran out of content to do with no power level grind each season. You won't have to work towards any endgame activities. Just do a five minute story beat each week. The main content of the season will be grinding a season activity for weapon frames.
-
Look up “Bungieleaks” on Twitter. Cause newsflash,
Season of the Deep plans on removing gear power level in exchange for a seasonal level, and your fireteam will be scaled to the highest level on the team. Keep your sunset weapons kids.
Power level as it currently is done will be drastically changed soon. Long time Players are NOT going to happy about it...
-
I agree, grinding all the time just for power level is getting to be a hindrance! They're got to be a better way.

You do know this is the last season you have to grind power right lmao
-
It should have a Check list system. If thr Pinnacles granted one pc and didnt repeat the same pc until the full list if "checked off" then it would be better. So you have 8 Total ( 5 Armor and 3 guns) . Every Pinnacle completion grants one random item of the 8 slots. Then it just grants out of the 7, then 6 and so on. So you know after 8 pinnacle completions.. you can increase each pc of gear and not get 8 Chest pcs...

Then what's the point of an RPG looter/shooter? The power lvl grind is the same in most RPGs only instead of X lvls above your head it's gear lvls. I still remember back in D1 when you had lvl 1-40 above your head. Miss that actually, but it was tied to your gear. Then, it became light level after max player level. I don't mind the light lvl as it's something to chase besides guns/gear. It also keeps everyone on solid ground. If someone is above 1800, you know they're playing grind or at least got good RNG. I think it will be stupid without the grind because when I hit max light I'm done till next season.
-
I'm on the fence about it.. I'm still guardian rank 7 because I have zero reason to do 3 weekly missions on legend lol. It's just cuz lol. There are no extra rewards or anything. Did it this week once.. and I was like meh maybe next next week
-
This shouldn't be a thing ever. I already am locked out of getting new exotics cause I am having difficulty beating a legend lost sector. It's nuts. Mind you my money is as good as everyone else and everyone plays differently if you enjoy the hardest content good but I'm a casual player and I try my best I may not be able to beat a legend lost sector even though you can I shouldn't have to be locked out of content. It's just not right.
-
Nah bro. If I paid for content, I want access.
-
according to very creditable leaks, it will be gone sometime this year and replaced with xp
-
Edited by He-Menes: 3/30/2023 3:28:08 PMJust a quick reminder that triumphs (which are just achievements from other games/plataforms) are an optional mechanic (thanks god). So, no. Don't think the game should start asking for X amount of triumphs done to have access to anything. If you feel like you're the badass, that you got everything covered, go there, select the higher difficult and show everyone how it is done.
-
You may be playing the wrong game
-
Edited by Predatalien: 3/30/2023 9:51:03 AM8 years and you still don't know how to level effectively, rng us a non factor if you do it right
-
Yeah, remove power levels so there’s nothing to do and no reason to play for 90% of the community so the game dies. Why do people not get this. If you remove power level grinding each season there is no reason to do 90% of the game for most players and it will die out.
-
Destiny has always depended on your light level, taking that away it becomes a casual generic shooter, and not the light MMO they want it to be
-
They have done this basically. You can raid if you’ve beat the story etc. LL is no where near as integral as it has been in the past
-
Power level is basically going away next season so we’ll see what happens
-
You mean the thing they’re doing next season? Lol
