The difficulty increase that came with Lightfall extinguished my love for Destiny

I used to play D2 almost daily, casually playing vanguard ops and seasonal missions. I used to spend 10+ hourse a week playing bit haven't even played in the last days. This is not fun anymore since the introduction of negative power deltas with the release of Lightfall. Permanently being underlevel in missions that should be casual makes them feel like a chore. Same can be said about Lost Sectors and the Neomuna patrol zone. Playing them feels absolutly awful and way too grindy. I don't understand what went through Bungie's head when they introducted these changes. I feel like this makes the already awful new light experience even worse as vanguard ops and patrol zones seem like the starting point for new players. Please reverse these changes or make them optional. Being able to relax in vanguard ops, a bit higher difficulty in seasonal missions and legend content and high butmanagable difficulty in master and gm nightfalls.

  • All the posts about difficulty show that Bungie either didn't consider all of their players when making a major change to the game or just plain didn't care. I don't know which one is worse, but there was definitely a way to make both sides of the "difficulty" debate happy, and Bungie didn't choose that option and that makes them poor game developers. Bungie either thought, "we will lose players over this and we're fine with that", or "we have them hooked, they'll just deal with it".

      game ran itsself out. and bungie is behing on releasing their new game so they are trying to milk this game for as much cash as they can before abandoning it. these constant changes are a sign of a failing game they don know what to do to keep the players from leaving so they just throw random sht at you to see what sticks They want to keep the streamers because they promote d2 This season has been the most disappointing for many people including myself because now i feel like im grinding for a power level that is completely useless in any activity. Gamer stockholm syndrome will explain why people still defend this game. Look it up

      • I feel about the same,this difficulty increase has made me look at the game as if it was a chore, its no longer a fun, run and gun game where you can find challenging content if you want. I had a serious "quit" moment after i did a nightfall (arms dealer..) with 2 absolute muppets and i was grandly rewarded with 1.5k glimmer and 3 shards. So bungie have increased the difficulty but not the rewards, doing ALL THAT WORK FOR FRIGGIN 1.5K GLIMMER AND 3 LEGENDARY SHARDS WHAT THE HELL BUNGIE

        • Funnily enough had much more fun in a BETA this past couple weekends than I have had in the past 4 seasons of Destiny.... Witch queen was the last time I actually enjoyed the game, lightfall just makes no sense and was just slopped in haphazard. The addition of Neomuna and its story arc while an interesting concept is very poorly written and executed the world feels lifeless and empty just like the current gameplay.

          • I used to think that standard PvE activities were for casuals and PvP was for people with a bit more of a competitive heart. Thanks to the new update I now know that patrols were supposed to be the peak challenge of Destiny after all.

          • Did the campaign on all three characters, did the post campaign missions, and the story, then realised I was grinding for pinnacles and stopped playing.

            • All Bungie really want is to keep players playing for a longer period and if that means making activities harder to complete then that is their business model. I personally enjoy a challenge however I believe that there is a sweet spot that they are slightly over shooting. It feels like they turned it up to 11 but really they need to turn it down to 10.

                It's fine actually. Slightly annoying that they nerfed us and made things more difficult, but not a problem though. Plus planets like EDZ are not leveled above us luckily. I do think that any place that has -5 does not need a delta, leave it casual as is. Anything higher is understandable though. Also, they *should* reverse the buff to enemy HP's. I think surges are cool if they are a bonus, and not a requirement.

              • I.... sort of agree with the OP. While I still get my stuff done and can still do harder nightfalls and solo lost sectors, it's certainly less *fun*. Myself and many of my friends don't play as often as we used to before Lightfall. But we also don't feel like it's completely broken, just much more of a grind that isn't exciting. Having to shoot the same enemy for 5 minutes because he has 5 million health isn't thrilling. Tormentors aren't even hard anymore. Stay back, dodge their jump slam, keep backing away and circling while pouring on the damage. For 5 minutes straight. Weeeeeee....

              • I say this with the calmest, most friendly tone in mind: I simply don’t understand… the game isn’t difficult, even lost sectors. Difficult is dark souls. This game is just bullet spongey, but that’s not difficulty. It’s just time consuming and imbalanced. The mod system is way different sure, but I’m getting abilities back faster now than I did last year with the new system. Armor charge is op! It makes the game so much easier as a whole, it’s crazy. They are also going to make a pass at buffing primaries again in pve which will be great. I’m not saying “get good,” I’m just saying I don’t understand the take due to how I experience the game.

                I came to make a post exactly about this. The game is just too irritating now. I can’t just chill and play d2. GMs, master raids and dungeons, raids to some extent, some dungeons—I get these being hard and challenging (but rewarding). But the fact that I can’t just casually enjoy playing anymore without having to be sweating it to stay alive because everything is so over-tuned is irritating and extremely unfun. I have upvoted both this post and the post you linked to. [b]Bungie, please reverse the unnecessary changes that made everything way too hard and very irritating. [/b]

                • I hit the pinnacle cap recently and I decided to work on my Titan to get them kitted out and unlock all the Strand aspects and fragments. I spent a bit grinding today and decided it’s just not fun or worth it to do that. Everything is so tedious. Just boring and frustrating having to dump a full mag into a red bar. And not even for good loot. None of the drops help you get more powerful, you’re stuck with a negative delta on most activities. There really isn’t a point in grinding light level anymore. Most of my clan has stopped playing regularly and is moving on to other games. We can’t just hang out and relax anymore. But at least the sweats who treat this game like a job can be challenged and look down their noses at others again because they’re awesome at something. I loved when GMs would roll out because I could do challenging things for special loot. It was a treat. I’d farm them for good rolls if the reward was something I wanted. But no reward is worth this. I hope these data-driven chucklefuchs revert some changes and let us gamers who just want to have fun have some activities where we don’t need to meta-sweat just to play.

                • Totally agree. Right no the fun isn't there. Any lightfall mission, patrol, seasonal or battleground is a miserable experience. much like taking out the garbage or doing the dishes. The witch queen, was challenging at times, but still fun, they should have stopped here. Now patrol enemies have 30% more health than in a master raid, and your always -ve power in any lightfall content. Its a fun issue, not a skill issue.

                  • I totally agree, I posted something similar today. The Battleground are so hard now that even the latest raid look easy compare to it. I am out of ammo in no time and there is nothing on the ground to pickup so you empty clip after clip on an NPC and he is still running strong. I guess Bungie cashcow will die eventually if only elite players can play the game.

                      Vanguard Ops isn't harder, friend. Still the new player cake walk it always was. Master Lost Sectors on Neomuna are hard as heck, and rightfully so... "Master" and all. The normal mode ones? Come on. They are not hard either. Shoot, even low tier nightfalls are still easy. What is it that you actually want? I don't think you know. I do though. You like to have your complaints validated by other complainers. That's it. I wouldn't be surprised if you were running a strike right now. edit: just saw this: if you think strikes are hard, then no one who does GMs wants the difficulty lowered to the point where you personally can manage it. They are supposed to be brutal, Conqueror should mean "skilled". Tons of participation trophies in the game, and I support that. GMs and Master content shouldn't be scaled down to allow the lowest skilled players to "win", they should challenge the most committed players.

                      • I feel the same way...I'm sorry I bought the annual season pass and Lightfall. Played the Diablo 4 beta all weekend. I think I'm going to count it up as a loss and move on to that game. Plus in May Wayfinder is coming out and I'll just play that instead. Not having fun I D2 anymore...It's more frustrating and tedious then a "Game" should be...It's just not fun for me

                          I think I finished the Season pass in Witch Queen release in less than 2 weeks. Its almost 4 weeks now and I'm still not done. I cant bring myself to finish the Legend campaign on my 3rd character. When I finished witch queen legend campaign I couldn't wait to do it again and again. Seasonal story and activity is garbage. Lost sectors are a joke. Its only 1 year on from Witch Queen. Everything they changed, they made things worse.

                          • The spam abilities took such a nerf that it is not the same game any more. The new mod system is way worst than the former one in this regards. Even with 10 dis i still always wait for the grenade i won t even begin with charged melee. Or they buff cool down or they rework the abilities gain per orb. Because tight now the space magic is just gone

                              • I can't remember exactly which...but a prominent streamer made a comment stating players should be using mouse aim assist software and keyboard macros. This same streamer griped about controller aim assist. He also claimed the game "really needed a difficulty increase." Well I suppose if your machine aims for you, allows you to rip complex maneuvers and never misses frames because the drivers are made for Nvidia and not AMD (which is what consoles use.) It would be a breeze. I have no idea how Sony justifies the latter, but will say this; I can't see through the effects as it is and I seem to have 0 aim assist. It was plenty hard on console already. The p.c. and console worlds should never have been blended.
