I am in the same boat. There is a way around it. However it requires that you create a second Bungie.net account. And if you had cross save turned on you'll need to turn it off. This will impose a 90 day lockout on turning cross save back on. So if you're like me this will prevent you from being able to play content on your preferred platform with your save data for 90 days. (I started on Playstation and transitioned to Steam, pun intended). Skip to the list of steps if you are curious. I could go back to Playstation to continue playing with those characters but all my friends play on Steam now. And there's no Cross Play. Even if I did go back to Playstation, I don't have the current Lightfall campaign license on that platform. The season pass I purchased on Steam is also currently inaccessible to me. No access to my current career progress from Steam. For 90 days. Just from turning off cross saves. That's a lot of time I won't be playing with all of the stuff I've done. The 90 day wait period is to prevent fraud or something. I can't think of another game service that does this. And maybe Bungie thinks this handles it for them without having to pay for a support staff to handle the tickets in doing the steps above on the back end? But there are soo many other game services that do this automatically. It's a form you fill out for most of them. The process itself is very convoluted to even do. But also contains no decision making steps. So, it could be automated with a user input form page on Bungie.net after passing a security test. Ironically, Bungie's new parent company, Sony gives out player name changes. First one is free. Any others you pay $10 USD for. They did list a number of games that I would lose progress or purchases from but none I cared about. Done. One form filled out and completed. Even the nice FAQ page about what would be affected. Anyways this (or something close) is what Bungie is putting all transitioning players through. It's dumb. Here are the steps: 1) Make a separate deadnamed email address 2) Make a new Epic games account with that deadname email (I chose Epic because they had the simplest account creation process) 3) Log into old Bungie.net account, after waiting for the timer on the last Silver purchase to run out (you have to have not purchased Silver recently as well) 4) Change the contact email to the dummy deadname email (remove phone number if it's in there) 5) Turn off CrossSaves. 6) Unlink everything feasible (you have to leave one for the moment) 7) Relink old Bungie.net account to the dummy deadnamed Epic account 8) Sign out 9) Sign in to old account with the deadnamed Epic account 10) Unlink the remaining platforms So now the old Bungie.net account is associated with a new unused Epic account both using a dead email 11) Create new Bungie.net account using preferred platform with save data on it 12) Relink the rest of your platforms 13) Use your brand new Bungie.net name change token to put in your preferred Bungie.net player name 90 days later step) Wait to play with friends on your preferred platform with your save data
