Initial Mod / Build Impressions: It’s Bad Bungie, but you can fix it

So I logged in yesterday to play Lightfall like many of you, and I initially was excited to start the campaign. The cinematics were very cool, and the prospect of visiting an entirely new planet was exhilarating. And I’ll be honest, I haven’t played more than the first couple of missions, so I can’t give an opinion on how the campaign was just yet. THAT BEING SAID, I can give an initial impression of the build system in Lightfall, and im not thrilled about it. I have always been a huge buildcrafter for this game, and I immediately noticed a plethora of mods missing from my previous builds. Did anyone else notice this? How a lot of awesome QoL mods were now gone? I’m sorry, but this “new” system is essentially Charged with Light 2.0. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like running around chasing orbs just to get a small bump to my ability regen. I also didn’t like elemental well builds until the mod “Seeking Wells” was introduced. Now that’s gone too and there’s very little creativity to be had. Heavy Handed, which used to be a mod that gave you 50% of your melee back upon usage, is now nothing more than an orb generating mod on your arms. And good luck fitting that onto your arms if you’re trying to run kickstart or other ability regen mods. What’s frustrating is that an easy fix would be to synergize mods with subclass fragments that create items like fire sprites or stasis shards. They could take the place of seeking wells, then have a mod that gives you an armor charge when those get picked up. Also have fragments that make those seek toward the player, and/or a mod that has orbs of power seek. The speed of combat would greatly increase, but the difficulty spike still holds validity. Stasis already does this. A couple suggestions to the sandbox team: 1. Bring back more mods 2. Make subclasses synergize with armor charge system more

  • I'm not a mod heavy kind of guy, because I'm stupid. But, one look at this system, and I can tell it is way less customisable than the last one. It's good they got rid of the armor element, bad that they gutted the hell out of the mods. Worse that the mods are now tied to each armor piece, in my eyes.
