I was thinking for a decent rework to the fragile focus perk because as it stands it is functionally useless. I feel like the intention behind the perk is to enhance duelling weapons on the front-end of the engagement, basically a reverse eye of the storm. it's biggest problem is the fact that it hardly has any uptime. In any duel there is only a 50/50 chance you are going to get the first shot off and with weapons that take a large amount of bullets the effect is going to be insignificant. To maintain the identity of the perk while actually making it viable I propose three different possible changes.
first possible change: making it function similarly to pulse monitor. Going critical completely removes the buff. OR making it similar to eye of the storm. The buff gradually get weaker as you take damage, completely vanishing once critical. both of these changes are so similar there are frankly indistinguishable in gameplay. Either would be delightful, because this perk is essentially useless as it stands.
second possible change: making it function similar to frenzy. Now this one has a huge host of problems, the largest being it might be slightly confusing for most players. Many people to this day don't really understand how frenzy works so a perk that makes your gun feel [i]worse[/i] after the requirement is met might be cumbersome and confusing for most. that being said I think it would provide a lot of utility and play better for thosee who can keep the timer in mind. The biggest problem with perks that activate according to your health bar is that the changes in your gun's performance come quickly, and you have little to no control over it. This change would allow for players to maintain control over their weapons performance while still decreasing in effectiveness over the course of an engagement. I propose that taking damage once atleast every 3 seconds over the course of 5 seconds would remove the fragile focus buff and you would then have to wait another 5 seconds for the buff to reengage. This way constantly peeking and taking damage would remove the buff and moving from kill to kill would also take it away, benefitting the player who takes concise 1v1s from just outside of their effective range and waits to reengage later.
third possible change: make it similar to compulsive reloader. This is perhaps the easiest to implement and understand, with the added bonus of making it pair exceptionally well with a perk also in dire need of a major buff. Simply put, the top 1/3 of the magazine has +20 range. Maybe add a reload penalty on top of it to stop abuse and incentivise pairing it with compolsive reloader?
This perk feels like it is so close to being good but the weapons that can best take advantage of it are burst damage weapons that already have tons of range. That's what I've come up with so far, would love some feedback. if you have any other ideas I'd love to read them
