General improvement on the state of the game
I love destiny, I love the developers.
First I should say "no offense", I respect Bungie and the games developers but... Destiny is a great game, and I have loved almost every minute of it but recently I have been thinking about the current flow of the game and what we know about its near future and I realized that there was a better way to continue the development and progress of the game. I know that everyone was kind of peeved about the "new destiny game" thing when d2 was first announced but while I didn't think it would at the time but the game has turned out very much for the better through the transition but it's handling right after the transition could have been better, I understand the season pass and dlcs and all the in game purchases, but I feel sorry for the people who pre-ordered the game only to have it given away the next day for free. Now I also understand that they can't just give out refunds for the pre-orderes because that just wouldn't be feasible for a business but there still should have been some kind of official apology kickback for them at the bare minimum for what they paid they should have gotten the next big dlcs free or at the very least discounted to some degree. Then there's the whole sun setting, content vaulting/seasons stage the game has gotten into as of late wich I also understand but it could have and should have been handled better. It makes sense that destiny has fallen for the season pass fever but it's quite annoying to buy something repeatedly and have it constantly "expire" gets... annoying Its an unfortunate byproduct of the battle pass system that wouldn't even be that hard to avoid and could have made people much more happy, owning something and working towards it without having to worry about it getting thrown away in a month. The seasons themselves are... Uh... There. The seasons provide interesting story and activities to fill the time gap between the major events of the the big dlcs and updates, but they get so grindy and repetitive that they make you invest so much time and effort into an activity that will just be thrown away at the end of the month and it just makes us feel like we as players are just being thrown around, "oh they won't care, let's just push them to do this new activity for a couple weeks and then we'll think of something else to distract them for another month or two". The major content vault and the consistent season vault have just lead destiny to shoot itself in the foot, but again there is a reason behind it they can't just keep expanding the game over and over and expect the balloon not to pop but this also could have been handled better. Then there's sunsetting, not only did destiny shoot itself in the foot by vaulting the free campaign and ensuring that no real amount of new players join in the foreseeable future l, they had to go ahead and shoot the players in the foot. I understand that sunsetting was not done with harm in mind and it was pushed forward with the best of intentions for the games development but they really dropped the ball on it. Making veteran players loose gear they spent countless hours to get, just so they can do it all again and that's the thing they needed to "refresh" the game but there are again better was to handle it. First for fixes: let's talk the game divide. Controversial as it was at the time the creation of d2 was a good idea in the long run but maybe It wasn't thought of in the right way, we as players got a better game system with updated graphics and a new story super charged story for us to run through but 2 years after the release we had enough content to make it its own game and then, shadow keep. Shadow keep was at the start of the many things that should have been done differently, not with shadow keep itself but with how the time between the major events was handled. We went form new activities like the forge ignitions and menagerie that would stay, add to the game to be a part of the game to things like the sundial and vex offensive, added to the game just to distract us from our boredom in the time between dlcs. So here's the better answer, in my opinion, the way things should have been done. #1: destiny should be a three game series. >I say this because it would be the best way to fix a good chunk of the mistakes made in the game so far. The games would be split so d1 would be the same, d2 would be red war till pre shadow keep/start of shadow keep, and d3 would be shadow keep till present. d1 is now more than ever a "classic" only really played by those filled with nostalgia, d2 has no real base campaign since the vault with the purchase of a dlc to give players. So with no new players to get hooked on d1 and d2 not having much to offer since vault, why not just take what was vaulted and have it stand alone, it own game, free to play. This would attract new players and get them hooked on the series, then when they were ready and fully hooked they would have the option to pay for d3, transfer their character and all their gear to the new game, using d2 as a sort of cooling saucer for d3 getting players in and invested before making them really start paying for more, this would allow the player base to grow and more support the series development. #2: removing the down time content shortages. >The biggest problem with battle passes is when people complete them because now they are at the end, there is nothing for them to work towards witch pushes developers to keep the seasons moving so the player base stays "active" ie. fat and happy, or at least busy and engaged. So an easy fix, give the seasons meaning. go back to adding activities to the game so they stay for people to play them, not just so that six people can grind themselves to oblivion on filler, say what you want about the forges and menagerie, at least they had real purpose and use. And give the seasons some degree of staying power, if a new season begins while I'm still working on one after buying it, it is quite disheartening, when one purchases a season they should have access to it's battle pack for as long as they need it, you should be able to generate xp and gain levels in every battle pass you have (not all at once of course) but a "let me finish this season then all work on the next" type of deal. #3: avoid the sunsetting fiasco altogether. >By splitting the games into three instead of two the devs wouldn't really even have a reason to have a major sunset, they can just move things around between d2 and d3, which along with looking better (probably) and working better (hopefully) it would give the devs the ability to innovate on a newer/updated system and put more effort and newer content into the game itself along with leaving more room for creative development. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+- I know that hindsight is 20/20 and that the devs did kind of repent on some of the sunsetting things giving us a less extreme version of the original idea, but I also love this game and have high expectations for it's future but I still feel it's important to have said this so that it would at least be out there for people to consider, and look opon for the future development and ideas used to better the game that I care so much for.
big apology to the readers, this was written on my phone at midnight so it is full of misspellings and bad autocorrects, along with anyone else who didn't agree with me as this is my opinion and is not ment as some hate letter to the developers but a different idea about how the last years could have worked out and is only supposed to be observations and opinions as opposed to accusations. Thanks for the read.
• Great ideas! I think the prospect of a destiny 3 can seem off putting, just because losing all of that gear AGAIN really would annoy people after the drama of sunsetting (if beyond light had been a destiny 3 with engine improvements dedicated servers etc with vaulting and sunsetting it might not have been so negatively received but again hindsight lol). Realistically we need a big shift or update to the core game experience, while holding onto not only gear, but what already works. We dont need the mess of d2 vanilla again imo.
