I'm not buying lightfall but will order 5 copies +seasons at the mention of AE removal
This is a long rant about the game as a whole really, but I think it centralizes around the mentality behind AE. There are a lot of reasons I'm not currently buying lightfall. A LOT. But AirborneEffectiveness is without a doubt the most hated change in the last 5 years. At least sunsetting had reason to exist. I cannot think of a more universally despised change, but it seems like every update it's being leaned into more.
It was supposed to be an equalizer for PvP, but affects PvE, alienates the skilled players who create the backbone of social content for the game, and affects low skill players too. If they want to cater to newer players, maybe craft a better new light experience before punishing people for jumping, something that's been a skill in almost all video games as a whole since the beginning of time
If you ask anybody what destiny's strengths are as a shooter, 100% will say either movement or gunplay. Those are what primarily set it apart. This change negatively affects both of those, compounding with others, such as the slide nerf, or addition of cooldowns to movement abilities. When all that is so heavily watered down, there's not a lot that separates its feel from other games, and the weaknesses start to show a lot more. It is not a viable option to continue to lessen the game's strengths while still pushing out unbalanced or bugged content. Not a single thing put into the game this year was not bugged. Rift, new exotic armor, new exotic weapons, Eruption, the change to resilience, the campaign, sever missions, ketchcrash, holiday activities, event cards, shaders,... I could go on a whole list of problems that aren't just around for those looking for them, but that I as an individual player personally experienced every single one by just playing the game normally.
If Bungie mentions even just walking it back a little, I would have reason to believe the company cares at all about the playerbase's opinion. But as of now that doesn't seem to be the case, and it actually seems like every single week we're seeing something new that suggests they don't.
I'm done putting money into this game until something comes through showing that it will get better, and AE is the biggest item on the list. Once that's gone I'll have faith that at least they could change their mind on other things, but there's no way that right now this $100 pre-order (on top of a game that's been ~$500 so far) feels like it would be worth more fun than a $20 game I see in the Walmart discount bin.
