I think the most exciting thing the Traveler has done was scold Rhulk through a ghost. There has to be more to the Traveler then being just a set piece at the Tower.
It's archenemy is closing in...does the Traveler have a battle plan? It obviously can speak through ghosts...so why doesn't it more often? At the very least why hasn't the Speaker's Mask been repaired and utilized by someone. I'm sure Ikora could pull it off.
I hear Zavala going on about the Traveler constantly but it doesn't seem to be a participant in the story.
Come on Bungie, can the Traveler do something that proves that it's in this fight with us? Something unmistakable.

All things being said I think what we really need to see is a change in the Traveler's attitude. A change in it's desire to flee. The Traveler has to stop being prey and the Witness has to stop being the hunter. If the Traveler doesn't decide to personally take a warlike stance at this point the Witness will win eventually, it's inevitable. Unless the Traveler really starts showing it's awesome power and striking some fear into the Witness. Guardians are a stopgap measures but in the end the Traveler itself has to take the offensive just as the Witness has been doing for eons. It has to stop acting scared and start getting pissed. If it has to embrace some form of the Sword Logic to win so it can carry on terra-forming and uplifting civilizations without the threat of the Witness destroying everything it accomplished...then so be it. Screw the Flower Game. What the Traveler was doing was a good thing. It would uplift a planet and then move on. It's the Witness who is the wrench in the gears who wants to make everything like Warhammer 40k. All I'm saying is if a rabbit keeps breaking into a garden and devouring everything the Gardener needs to take action and kill the rabbit or there isn't going to be anything to harvest.
