As time goes on I’m only more and more convinced Taox is inside The Traveler.
The main source of information we have about Taox comes from the Books of Sorrow and The Hive’s interpretation of it.
Originally we all thought The Osmium Kingdom was betrayed by Taox. We also thought the hive gods were driven to the deep out of some sort of self preservation due to a cataclysm on Fundament. Of course we know now the hive worm was lying to Savathûn on order from The Witness. I mean I wouldn’t put it past The Witness that Taox’s betrayal is also a fabricated lie to drive Savathûn’s hatred and blindness.
The only real part of my theory towards Taox that’s unclear to me is how she is described to encounter The Ecumene.
Then it hit me. The Ecumene are The Traveler. At least what’s left of them. Bungie never scrapped the original story it just got rewritten for suspense. The Traveler is a Dyson Sphere like from Larry Niven novels. Inside The Traveler is a vast green vibrant city full of technologically advanced spacefaring races.
Beings that in lore are described as “War Angels”
I’ll say that again:
War Angels
Gosh that sure sounds like creations of The Traveler. Guardians definitely fit the description.
In the end the uncertainties of The Ecumene, The “Traveler’s” involvement in the region, and what happened to Taox specifically are chalked up to “The Hive said they destroyed everyone” and come on The Hive are liars.
Would be a real hoot if Destiny has always had the same story since launch. Ironically too this is how writers actually work out arcs and narrative. They write their story then work backwards from the end to make it seem like they knew what they were doing the whole time. Neil Gaiman speaks about this and has a few enlightening statements on the writing process. His quality of work should speak for itself.
So yeah. That’s the addition to my Taox theory. There’s a city inside The Traveler and Taox is one of its inhabitants.
