For those struggling to complete Solstice event quests and challenges, here is a work around. You could wait for Bungie to fix this, but good luck with that. Prior to running Bash, spend Silver Ash to upgrade a piece of armor. If you lack the kindling to unlock an Ash upgrade, buy a piece of already completed armor from Eva, spending only glimmer and shards (do no spend Ash as you may not be able to make-up the loss). As far as I can tell, using Ash to buy armor from Eva has no impact on this problem, other than leave you with less Ash. Using 20 Ash will yield 26 Ash from the Bash, for a net gain of 6. Using 40 Ash yields 51 for a net gain of 11. Using 60 Ash yields 76 for a net gain of 16. For those without enough Ash to upgrade a piece of armor, you will have to farm 1 at a time until you have 20. This has been working reliably for me for several days, before and after the recent patch that did nothing for the problem. I was able to complete the Ash Tray challenge on both of my alternate characters. Currently stock piling Ash for when I get tbe last Kindling needed to unlock the remaining armor on my alts.
