A Panzer Post about Writing and other nerdy stuff that I do

It's that time again, the bi-whim-ly Panzer Post. I don't even know why I call them that... Anyways, Post of the Panzer today will include topics like: Cringe OC's Writing about said OC's Panzer admitting to and accepting the title of Cringe Terraria, and its Mods And whatever else my ADHD-smoothed brain spews out, so be prepared. Should I do more intros like these? Usually the only engagement I get on these posts are the final questions that I have made a habit of adding to the bottom, so perhaps doing a short TL;DR at the top could help people who do not want to sort through my organized(ish) ramble. Let's start with the basics. I have always been a... creative type. I've mentioned elsewhere that I had an Undertale phase, of which many characters (that I have revamped to be more original) sprouted. In those early days, I came up with the concept of Finn. Who, exactly, is Finn? Well, there's quite a convoluted story based around him. Still, essentially he is a multi-dimensional immortal who is the sole remaining Titan in the Realm of the Titans, a world of pure creation made by the Primals. (I have run a whole DnD campaign in the mortal side of this universe, there's a lot of lore) Anyways, this Realm of the Titans acts as a home base for every single one of my OCs ever! Even my now-rarely-used Panzer and Co. are based at the Realm of the Titans. I'll stop the useless rant about my world, but essentially, this just shows that I have many characters. All of them have personalities and traits (though I'll admit, not all are unique). Ever played Terraria? It's a wonderfully fun game on its own with incredibly fun progression and a bunch of unique bosses. There are also a lot of references. Terraria has, for quite a while now, had an open-source project called tModLoader, which gives modders tools to build mods, and a way to easily upload them where any player can reach them. One of the most classic Terraria mods is called Calamity. This mod is massive, almost doubling the amount of content, and fixing a lot of the annoying parts of the game (early hardmode used to be a ton of mining to get your Adamantite, but now, defeating the Wall of Flesh gets you Cobalt and Palladium (tier 1 ores), the first Mech Boss Mythril and Orichalcum (tier 2), and the second gets you Titanium and Adamantite. The final mech boss makes the bosses begin to drop hallowed bars and also spawns hallowed ore in the... Hallow.) This mod makes Terraria twice as fun to play, and the sprites/textures are simply beautiful. Terraria also, with the 1.4 updates, added Texture packs, and one modder added a pack that changes the vanilla textures to match the amazing aesthetic of Calamity. On top of that, the music is amazingly composed, and many mods add in more Calamity-style music. This mod, to me, is essential for Terraria, as it simply makes the game more fun. I know, I know, seemingly random tangent, but hold on for a little longer. Terraria was never a game with solid lore. All the events that happen just kinda happen, with no real explanation. The players have always been fine with that. Recently, Re-Logic started adding Official lore to the game. Aight. Calamity, however, has had Lore in the game much longer, and its story is much more cohesive and deeply engaging. One of the plot threads had Yharim, the Jungle Tyrant (Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord, Yharim?) testing weapons in the Jungle. He is attempting to rule all of Terraria, and he needs great weapons to do so. A scientist, for whatever reason, added an extra flair to one particular weapons test, a prototype bio-weapon deemed too dangerous for use. Thus, my favorite boss in all of Calamity (besides Yharon), is the Plaguebringer Goliath. This nasty fusion of steel, flesh, and plague is a weapon of mass destruction, capable of rendering entire cities uninhabitable after a single barrage. The aesthetic and story behind the plague are just too cool for me, so what does Panzer do? Come up with a character based on the Plague, of course. I've kinda always done that. "Oooh," I say, "Any story or theme I like? Let me make a character to insert into that world and write stories about it!" Yes, Fanfiction... Whatever you think of fanfic, it is simply how I roll, and I shall not stop any time soon! Alright, janky segue 1 I've recently finished chapter 2 of a story about a character in the [REDACTED] Universe. Say what you want about the game, I enjoy it sometimes and the story has always intrigued me. This forum being this forum, the post was essentially ignored (greatly disheartening but expected). Yeah, that's it, I'm just bummed out about a cringe OC for a cringe game. I do as I please, and will continue to do so, and the downvotes of #Lore are not enough to stop a determined machine of war. Moving on, talking about this is kinda annoying (yes, even to me), but I just had to get that out there, somewhere. This is a Panzer Post, I talk about Panzer things, alright? Phew. During my vacation to my *interesting* birthplace of Texas, I began a playthrough of Terraria Calamity that I mentioned earlier. I invited my friends, expecting them to politely (or not-so-politely, as teenage boys do,) decline my offer, but surprisingly, I now have 3 other players! Sadly, I shall have to wait for my return before I can play with them, for the dinky laptop I am playing on (and currently communicating with the 3 people -blam!- this far (I say yay, "yay" said I) ) can barely run Terraria with one person spewing projectiles at whatever boss I am actively fighting, and 3 other players spewing projectiles (or perhaps just swinging a sword) may cause this poor thing to explode. Instead, I have spent this time preparing for their arrival with a small, greek-style monument at spawn, and chests full of pre-cultist loot. I have promised not to kill cultists until I return and we can play together. One of us shall miss this, but I will simply update her (omg panzer actually talked to a girl enough to be friends???????) loot until she can play with us. I'm cutting myself off here, just wanted to dump some randomness on Offtopic and perhaps even inspire some of you poor, lost souls so scared of downvotes, or being cringe, that you never venture outside a box to do so. No matter how much internet slang is thrown at me (I anticipate quite a lot), I shall continue to write, and maybe even post that Calamity story I am working on here. Some questions to end us off: Favorite Terraria Boss, or if you've played Calamity, favorite Calamity boss? EXPLAIN TO ME WHY! Waffles, Pancakes, or French Toast??? What a pretty nerdy interest you have? Not all of us are super rad nerds, and that's ok, but if you are, tell me! I let my friends nerd out to me about something like TW: Shogun 2, so you can expect that I can withstand quite a bit. What do you think of the new GloryHammer single? And the new lead? (Go listen to it, even if you haven't ever listened to symphonic power metal before. Now.) Pfft, that's enough from me. Long rambling, nonsense questions, and some other stuff that I'd expect someone on acid to talk about. Answer my questions, or face a fine of 300 Panzer Points. CYA!

  • That is a massive wall of text. Sometimes less is more sir. The Chronicles of Narnia > The Lord of the Rings. I have never played either of those games and have no desire to do so. French Toast or Waffles. Pancakes are gross. I have a lot of nerdy hobbies but I don't think I'm very passionate about any of them. I'm pretty apathetic in general. I prefer Cradle of Filth.

    • Whenever video games have me make my own custom character, I go all in. I make their personality, backstory, and all that jazz. Not surprising, on account of me being a writer (my professional edit just got back, so I’m getting ready for a semi-final draft before I publish!), but it is good fun. However, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles told me to make eight characters. EIGHT. And oh boy, did I make a lot for them. I wound up with 5, who had this really fun character dynamic with eachother, and all these fun wacky adventures for them popped into my head. And I can write NONE of it, because the base premis for the story revolves around FFCC. I’ve tried to edit that part out, but it is so intrinsic to why they set out on their adventures, that it just didn’t work without it. Which made me sad, because I love my Crystal Caravan, and want to write their story. :( But very well, your questions. 1. N/A. No boss strikes me as my favorite. 2. N/A. I eat none of these. 3. I have many nerdy passions. If I expanded upon that, you would have a very long post on your hand, and likely wouldn’t offer a satisfactory response in return, due to not sharing the same passions. 4. N/A. I shall not listen to them.

      • Currently nerding out on the About Time book series, which is an unofficial Doctor Who guide. “But Cultmeister,” I hear you cry; “what on earth do you need a guide book for if you already love the show so much? Surely you can just watch the episodes?” Well, dear reader, what an astute question! I’m glad you asked. You see, this isn’t just an episode synopsis guide, nor is it an ‘interesting anecdotes and tidbits’ pamphlet. This series attempts to explain everything you could reasonably want to know about not just every single episode, but how that episode was made and more importantly why it was made. So not only do we get critical analyses of each story (what doesn’t make sense, what could reasonably fit with established lore and possible workarounds if anything couldn’t), but we also get an in-depth look at what was happening in the production team at the time. Why certain scripts were written up the way they were, how the show developed over time and the way it was seen in the BBC, why some stories changed directors halfway through, what was around at the time influencing pop culture and the mindset of the UK and therefore the production team that decided that x kind of story was suitable to show children on a Saturday evening, even the kind of cameras they used and the way important shots were set up. There are accompanying essays on all sorts of nail-biting subjects, from “What are the best and worst cliffhangers?” to “Was there any hanky-panky going on in the TARDIS?”, to “No, the BBC weren’t trying to copy Star Trek”. In fact it doesn’t contain episode synopses at all unless that particular serial was (wholly or partly) missing from the archives at the date of publication, but even that is a curtesy on the grounds that they are available in other formats, which any fan worth their salt would know about.
