Destiny 2, how I stopped hating the grind an loving the game

Played this game since Beta in D1, wow I know I'm special asf please clap. Grinded countless strikes , raids an Dungeons . The best advice I can give is, take a break , walk away come back later . I didn't play any of season of Rasputin or Saint14. But honestly it was nice to just walk out an come back . Treat this game like a job a you'll never enjoy it. Low key ramble but honestly guardians, take a break.

Agreed. Too many people are trying to emulate how streamers and content creators interact with these games. Thinking that’s a healthy or sustainable way to play them. It isn’t. It’s why so many of them are angry, bitter, and negative. As well as why some of them have to take time away from streaming or making videos, because they burn themselves out. The design of the game isn’t the problem. The problem is that some players don’t want to take responsibility for managing their relationship with it.

Tell ya little more advice, taking a break is good but theres a flaw in human nature and it's called routine. If you are not careful with this game or really any game with a grind you'll fall into a routine of doing certain things daily and it wont change. This is usually what burns me out. When i first started this game I barely made it 2 seasons (by time i got level 50 in the 2nd season I was already feeling the burn.) Tthen i quit for 9 months returned after that, started playing again. 2nd time round i had put some thought into why i got burnt out so quickly the time before, it was the fact everyday I'd do the same thing. i would do all my banshee dailies on all 3 classes on the same exact map (planet) then go do what ever, but also found myself doing same what ever maps or content over and over everyday. I don't pvp so I'm cutting what close to 50% of content out maybe less. So after I returned i started mixing things up atleast i did for little while. Last season I changed my routine daily or just sometimes weekly. I just did every pve aspect story vangaurd just random maps and content kept myself entertained with no burn out. This season i find myself falling back to a year ago routine, guess what doing it all over again like i want to play the game but also don't because I've yet again fell into a never ending routine of doing the same thing everyday lol. So my point is mix it up and keep it mixed up if you can, don't just stick to open world pve or vanguard or w/e it is you typically enjoy doing, break the routine and this game will keep you deeply entertained. When you find yourself not wanting do anything at all it's time take a season or 2 off. I've got tons of things I can yet do but the routine I let myself fall into is keeping me from doing those things. So think I'll go do some vanguard stuff today it's been a few months time to break the past months routine lol. Take care and happy gaming!

  • Yes! Also stop doing the grind ….I just do exactly what I want to do . Now the season pass is maxed , not interested in seasonal challenges, don’t need to do pinnacle 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • I have a busy life so I’m only able to play over the weekend (exceptions for DLC launches) so I take a break 5 days at a time then come back and it is very refreshing to not play the game each and every day.

  • Personally I just only grind a couple days or so each week, does wonders for my enjoyment of the game

    • Leveling up (power lvl or crafted weapon) requires hours of grinding. Not a sustainable mechanism. Shame on Bungie.

Yeah but this seems to entirely ignore the key issue: is a particular season enjoyable or is it engineered to feel as tedious grind. This season feels like the latter. 'Forcing' us to play the same single activity on Levi, extraordinarily low red item drops, a painful 16+ level grind, high upgrade costs (400 LS), required materials from using 'bad' weapons (random red borders) all exacerbated the issue.

      • I disagree… Now, if a player financially gets up to date after the break.. there is a good couple of weeks of casual play that will feel exciting.. But as you load up to do the weekly’s.. same the three + year old stale content and then realize nothing has really changed other than losing content more than gaining… That enjoyment begins to dwindle again. If only bungie could sunset old strikes, PvP maps and gambit maps each year so that the core grind could feel like it was evolving… a lot of the issues would dwindle for a lot of players. Chasing our tails in this circle is just losing its glory.
