Rift isn't that hard or "shitty" as people make it sound like here in the Forums. What I diagnose the Rift haters with is "not being used to 6v6 teamplay that requires more than just shooting targets".
Ingame I see people still prioritizing their goals wrong. I see many players not going for a rezz when it is already safe to get the revive. I instead see them crouching to the revive point instead of running. It's not like Destiny 2 Crucible is a fast-paced game activity.
There is no place for doubt, fear and hesitation. Doubt, fear and hesitation will get you most of the time killed in Crucible.
Also I see people trying to play Rift like it is some sort of Team Deathmatch from Call of Duty, which is the complete wrong thing to do. It is a more tactical game mode in which team lives matter more than any kill.
I see people running in and dying, leaving their team at a number disadvantage. I see people not reviving or rallying before they push with the spark. I see even people sometimes so focused on killing stuff that they don't even consider looking around for the spark runner to spot, not to mention to carry the spark itself.
You can't win Rift by headbutting a brickwall (tho Titans will try...)
When both teams are fighting over the spark, it is CRUCIAL that your team not only goes winning out of that firefight, but also REVIVES as many downed team mates before attempting a push. Only in very few cases it is a smart idea to counterpush immediately to the enemy base (depends on Distance).
Also, communication is key. If you want to win the best way, play as a fireteam of 3-6 players. If you want to play in freelance, AT LEAST make sure you have a keyboard plugged in to use the text chat for call outs while being dead!
It is a game mode about number advantage, first picks, united pushing/defending and TACTICS! Not a mode about killing each other in a brain dead, lazy way like clash or control do allow to do.
Improvise, adapt, overcome. The Iron Lords did the same in the Dark Age. Our IRL ancestors could do it to hunt bigger prey. You can't tell me you can't do that too.

The fact you had to type an essay to try convincing people that rift isn't garbage proves how terrible the game mode is.

Edited by mayo68: 7/15/2022 9:53:52 AMOpinions vary. Personally I think if it wasn’t IB content, no one would be playing. That should tell you all you need to know about rift in its current state. Your take is equating mode knowledge with enjoyment which let’s face it, is ridiculous at best. I mean I know how to do the dishes, but still hate to do dishes. #duh
here’s a downvote “sparky”
The mode is mostly fine just our maps are to small for it and the rez timer is to long
-
The mode is (mostly) fine, my main problem is that it's so buggy and launched with only 3 maps, all of which are generally disliked by most of the community.
-
Mostly just hate rez timer being so long

Edited by Eatz: 7/14/2022 8:04:12 PMI said this in another post, that got taken down for some reason, but the problem with rift is that they WAAAAY overcorrected the spawn killing that was somewhat rampant in D1. To do this they: Made it round based, resets the game after every dunk, making games feel VERY slow Made it so spawning took 10 seconds, which they tried to offset by adding -blam!- ing revives, which is just about the dumbest thing I think you could ever add to a 6v6 game mode You spawn on the OTHER SIDE OF THE MAP when the enemy is seconds away from dunking in your rift, so you have zero chance of being able to help defend Kills don't count towards score at all, hell they don't even show up in the score card, making look like the majority of players did next to nothing It's like they were absolutely terrified of having even a sliver of a chance of their being any type of spawn killing, which is still very possible. And don't even get me started on the fact that there's only 3 maps, or that they decided to play test it in IRON BANNER. I can guarantee you that there wouldn't be half as many complaints about it if they had just had it in the rotating playlists for 2-3 weeks in the entire season. Rift was so fun back in D1 because it was just clash, with this really wacky and awesome capture the flag twist. Clutch moments were awesome, and being able to jump 50,000 points a dunk to secure the win was sooooo hype. Sure, there was a lot of spawn killing, but I'd rather that then be spawning away from the rift so I can't defend it. Like what??? Who tf thought that was a good idea? The whole game mode needs to be scrapped and re-done. I don't want to just say "make it like it was in D1," but jeez, it was so much better than this crap. It's just another nail in the coffin when you've got DMG addressing criticism on the mode by just straight up ignoring it and giving advice on how to win on twitter, when the guy is absolutely SUCKS at PVP. Lmao, he's like, "ohhh it's only been one day, just give it a chance." My brother, I'm pretty sure I can discern if something tastes like -blam!- on the first bite, get real😂😂😂.

Edited by TheArtist: 7/14/2022 7:45:56 PMOr we understand how to play it and simply don't LIKE it. The real issue with Rift is that it just doesn't address what is fundamentally broken about IB. 1. the PVP just isn't enjoyable. Between the Lockdown mechanic in IB Control...and now Rift. 2 The event serves no purpose. IB was popular in D1 because it was a CATCH UP mechanic (lootwise) for single players and for PVP-only players. It was a way to get some of the best gear in the game, for those people who didn't have a clan or a group of friends to run raids with or to run Trials with. But if you were willing to grind your butt off in PVP for a week, you could get gear on par with those end-game activities. Now, the stuff you get from IB is largely trash.....the loot table basically refreshes...never....and the events you hvae to play REALLY are not enjoyable. Which is why I walked away from IB almost 2 years ago. Its sad, because I REALLY used to love it back in D1.

Iron Banner has been terrible for quite a while..... Rift just makes it a no go (for me anyway)
-
I just don't really think it's fun. There's not been very many games where I'm genuinely having a tense match. Its die wait 10 damn seconds to do anything, get washed because it spawns you away from your point to defense it after they push far enough, then the complete opposite happens. The most fun game I had was with the FIRST spark lasting for 80% of the match. That was fun. Otherwise the mode is just like gambit to me. Fun scarcely and whatever a majority.
-
Enlighten us o great and eminent wise one on the way of rift. Said no one ever.
-
I don’t hate Rift, but I do prefer the D1 version - including points for kills and the reverse dunk bonus points (can’t remember, but did you also get bonus points for taking down a runner?). It felt more arcadey and fun seeing all the points rack up. To me, the current version feels much slower and like it’s taking itself too seriously.
-
You can't win Rift by headbutting a brickwall
What are you talking about? I've headbutted right through a wall of enemies to the rift before! Okay it was more like flinging myself through a gap between three different guys, but that still counts!
-
Rift itself isn’t hard or shitty. It just is in Destiny where players don’t want to do objectives or work together. It’s not a game mode problem. It’s a mindset issue. But Bungie have also done their fair share to create and foster this me first mindset so…
-
Rift is a game mode that does not belong in Iron Banner, it should be a separate playlist altogether.
-
Or maybe it's just boring 🤔
-
It’s the 3 maps for me, I hate them
-
Agreed. Still rift needs minor adjustments for it to be fun fun. First to 3-4 points should win the game, respawn timer needs to be lowered, I’d love it if we could pass the spark, I miss the dunk animations from d1, and adding mayhem to it occasionally would be epic(😈). I also hate the new xp system.
-
I think it's more cheating no lifers on PC js
-
Nah people just don't like playing and not getting points unless they take spark.
-
Basically. Every idiot I spectate while dead doesn't revive, goes off in the most questionable paths to chase kills, doesn't go after enemy spark runner and stays in the enemy spawn looking stupid wondering where the kills are when the entire enemy team is on our side closing in.
-
I’ve played more Rift than you ever will so I fully understand what a dog poop game mode it is. I’m fully aware that it sucked in D1 and sucks in D2. Keep playing if you enjoy it. I won’t be bothered but also won’t have a noob say it’s a lack of understanding.
-
The 10 second respawn timer is a little ridiculous, and the amount of rep awarded from completing matches could definitely be higher, but other than that I'm enjoying rift.
-
Ah yes we think the game mode is -blam!- so we must be stupid and not even know how to play.
-
People not liking rift doesn’t mean they’re bad at rift. It’s just a bad game mode.
-
No, it's literally just a dogshít game mode, and people would rather just slay out and enjoy themselves.
