Probably will never happen, but Bungie has shown with Witch Queen they can make things more difficult without the use of champions. And as champions are 1) stale, and 2) only limit gameplay, there's no excuse to reworking/removing champions. After sitting on this for some time, I thought of an alternative which would include Champion "modifiers," making the enemies more difficult, but removing the Champion aspect, for example
Champion Servitors: Servitors heal the enemies they shield.
Champion Captains: Captains teleport more quickly and cover longer distance. (Little change, but maybe add a rally affect to boost ads or something. idk)
Champion Knights: When Knights deploy their shield, they shield nearby combatants as well.
Champion Ogres: Ogres have massively increased health.
Champion Incendiors: Incendiors throw incendiary grenades and always ignite on death.
Champion Colossuses: Colossuses have arc shields and deploy more missiles.
Champion Minotaurs: Minotaurs have slightly increased health, and crit spot removed.
Champion Hobgoblins: Hobgoblins regenerate more health, and heal nearby combatants.
Champion Taken Hobgoblins: Taken Hobgoblins send more seekers.
Champion Taken Phalanxes: Taken Phalanxes charge their Shield Blasts more quickly.
Champion Chieftains: Chieftains send all types of ether totems.
Champion Abominations: Abominations have massively increased health.
Just a concept that will probably never happen, but thought I'd share anyway. This would make endgame content more difficult, while keeping our loadouts free to use whatever we wish.
