For an average solo player that is not easy to play alone (means possible, but not easy, seriously, how can you not read this part right?). And honestly, didn't this community show over and over again that it dislikes content that has timers tied to it? Bungie, why do you design missions that have an auto wipe mechanic after 5 minutes unless you reach a certain progress? I am sitting here, after 2 deaths, completely discouraged from playing this stupid mission, simply because I feel like a dev is sitting next to me, holding a (imaginary) gun at my head and saying "go play, if you don't reach the checkpoint in 5 minutes, you die". It is not fun.
Why did you not design this mission, instead of a "5 minutes til complete planet being glassed" mechanic that kills you automatically, with a mechanic that just makes the remaining mission harder to play instead of killing you outright? Again, such mechanics are not fun. They are annoying to play against.
Remember your D2 Y1 Nightfalls. People hated them for having timers that end the activity early unless you finish the strike before the time runs out. Stop pressuring players in such extremes. Stuff like that will make them only not play such content.
Edit: Seems like Reddit is a good source in this case for thoughts on this. This 2 Months old Thread has a lot of people saying "I hate it" too.
Edit 2: Since I also play World of Warcraft, let me tell about a similar situation there. In WoW Shadowlands (a much hated DLC, rightfully so) there is a sol/group-activity called Torghast with several stages that have to be completed and a boss at the final stage (usually its 5 stages).
When SL came out 2 years ago, Torghast was also timer-gated like this mission. Difference is, that the timer was not 5 minutes but like 30-40 minutes (due to the MMO combat sandbox which is typical slow compared to D2). When the timer runned out, a huge boss mob will start to chase you through the level (even during the boss stage) and auto kill you on contact. To make matters worse, back then you also had limited lifes and deaths also reduced the remaining timer time.
Long story short, people hated it, timer and boss chaser got removed. People were happy. Activity became more fun even. Collectibles were added instead to give players a reason to stay on a stage and collect everything.
Another Example from WoW. In WoW the Dungeons can be played on a higher difficulty (similar to GM NF). You also have a timer there of around 35-45min (depending on the dungeon). The Timer however does not auto kill you or end the mission when time is up. Your Mythic Key just doesn't get upgraded (keys are basically like a difficulty card back then in Y2 of D2) or even downgraded. But you can still finish the dungeon and get your loot from the chest after completing it. Much better system.

Pretty much everyone hates timers in missions in video games. It’s a lazy way for developers to make a mission or activity difficult.
-
Time limits suck. I don’t care who you are.
-
The thing is, the timer brings nothing to the mission. It doesn't add complexity, novelty, puzzlement, amazement, appreciation nor fun. It can only add annoyance for some, and indifference for others. Bungie doesn't seem to grasp the simple context, "If it doesn't add to the game, don't have it!" The timer - as evidenced here - just turns players off, and they don't bother to do the mission. Those who can - and do - the mission in the time, really get nothing extra from the completion. Without the timer, nothing is detriment. Players can - if they choose - take all day to do the mission, poking around in the scenery as they go. Players can - if they choose - to breeze through, collect the loot, and just get it out of the way. That's the other concept Bungie just cannot get a hold of. Choice! Players can't choose to play PvE instead of PvP.

exactly, forced my hand to farm out tier 10 strength and mobility invis hunter with witherhoard rocket

All they had to do was extended the time for an solo attempt.

Two days later he has the gun and it's fully masterworked. These people are atrocious.

Tried many times before and the timer kept killing me kind of annoying.. decided not to kill anything I didn't have to and use the hell out of my inviz on my hunter.. I have a good rocket launcher with lasting impressions to kill the final boss... The app sucks for getting help on Xbox

I only got a group to get it, and the last leg of the Parasite quest. Because both were too frustrating to solo.
-
Don't play a multi player game. Despite what you think it is not a solo game.
-
I'd sooner have a timer than just ramming it with champions,
-
I could solo my way to the boss but couldn't manage to beat him.
-
I soloed it on my first completion. Same with the DMT mission when that came out.
-
I solo normal Vox with ease.
-
If THEY can YOU can
-
YOU chose to play solo Don't cry when the game doesn't fit YOUR needs

Just chiming in. I didn’t play that mission much because of the timer. Bonus $.02 (what happened to the cents character?!?) - I feel both the Whisper and Outbreak perfected missions were ruined by timers. So much cool stuff to look at and explore, not to mention nostalgia, missed due to a timer. And while it was fun introducing noobs to TR3-VR like I was (the screaming still makes me giggle), it was ruined when halfway there the mission would time out cause peeps weren’t the best at jumping. Wasn’t happy about that. Conversely, Presage did it perfectly. No timer for exploring and a base roll of the gun. Timed to get the masterwork. Perfection. If the Whisper or Outbreak missions come back, and I sincerely hope they do, I hope they get the same treatment as Presage. 🙂

Edited by RingersCheckmate: 5/24/2022 2:20:32 AMI recall strongly positive feedback about zero hour and whisper, and both of those were pretty difficult to solo Vox obscura is also significantly easiser to to solo as well, I think it's fine for solo players. I'm more underwhelmed by it for being simple and boring.
-
I thought it was difficult at first as well. Juat have to get ghorn out and level up a bit. You can do it
-
Here some tips: Before hacking the door kill the overload guy first. You can ram a Goliath Tank with an interceptor it will blow up in one hit. Shoot the guns off the Harvester drop ship ignore the ads and head for the next section.
-
check out yt theres 100's of walkthroughs for solo runs and the builds you will need and tips tricks cheeses to get you through it. might take a few tries but worth it when you finally get it done.
-
Not going to lie. The timers on Master Vox are just too much. Just got it completed today for the Risen seal and I'm not going to lie and say it was easy. It took many runs to figure it out and we were all running invisibility Hunters to skip past areas. Don't listen to all the toxic gatekeepers. Most of them studied videos for hours and then just repeated what they saw and claimed it was easy.
-
Vox normal wasn’t bad and I am not a good player by any means. However, master diff for the catalyst is another story. Im also a solo player, but LFG when necessary. Been trying master for a while now and still can’t do it. Always get to boss with only 3 mins left. 1 or 2 fails and someone leaves, gotta start all over again. Maybe someday I will get it done! Good luck out there and stay positive!

My biggest gripe with timed missions is the fact I cannot admire the work put into the skybox and the environment. I want to enjoy the missions and the work put in by the team, stop with the speed running it's annoying.
-
Idk. I find the 5 minute timer for the air strike is easy and fair. But the 10 minutes timer for the 3 rooms you have to hack and then kill the boss is impossible solo. With 3 people you can have each person do a room aka split up so it cuts down on time majorly but solo it is a -blam!-, especially trying to kill champions by yourself in between.
-
It adds to the challenge

Just get a single teammate and get it done. No comms needed. No complaint needed
