Rat King has lost it's usability in high-end / competitive PvP as a result of collateral damage from the Void Invisibility Nerf stating "Targets with Void invisibility active now ping the radar for 0.6 seconds every 3 seconds until invisibility ends."

Using Rat King to proc invisibility via reloading after a kill, no matter the subclass (or class), was a great way to get the jump on opposing players; and using the catalyst to start health regen, it made it a good way to engage enemies, back-to-back. When Void 3.0 came out, Rat King was updated to give Void Invisibility, which I initially saw as a good thing since that would lead it to synergize with Void. However, this change to invisibility has ruined Rat King's ability to sneak up on skilled and focused players in smaller matches such as Survival and Trials of Osiris. I no longer have the benefit of getting the first shot, or flanking without detection anymore.
Sure, Rat King's invisibility will still work in Control and Iron Banner. The 6v6 format is so chaotic it makes radar pings easier to hide, and those playlists are a more casual experience meaning players aren't focusing/keenly aware of their radar or enemy positions. And yes, Rat King's catalyst will still trigger health regen after reloading after a kill, but if that's all I am to use it for, I might as well use Crimson as it has a much longer range and triggers health regen faster as it doesn't require a reload.
In short, Rat King's viability in competitive PvP ended with this change. I would like to see Rat King's invisibility be reverted to non-Void Invisibility so that it doesn't receive this change; or maybe Bungie can find another way to deal with the Void Invisibility issue, like adjust durations or cooldowns.

Edited by BurlyPanther0: 3/30/2022 12:52:32 PMIs it bad that I could summarize this into “My scuffy way of playing no longer rewards free kills cause people can see me on the radar” While I under that you feel like rat kings exotic perk now may feel useless, I’d argue that it’s even better if you have the catalyst for it. Sidearms by themselves are very strong, let alone one that turn you invis after a kill and restores health.
