Rat King has lost it's usability in high-end / competitive PvP as a result of collateral damage from the Void Invisibility Nerf stating "Targets with Void invisibility active now ping the radar for 0.6 seconds every 3 seconds until invisibility ends."

Using Rat King to proc invisibility via reloading after a kill, no matter the subclass (or class), was a great way to get the jump on opposing players; and using the catalyst to start health regen, it made it a good way to engage enemies, back-to-back. When Void 3.0 came out, Rat King was updated to give Void Invisibility, which I initially saw as a good thing since that would lead it to synergize with Void. However, this change to invisibility has ruined Rat King's ability to sneak up on skilled and focused players in smaller matches such as Survival and Trials of Osiris. I no longer have the benefit of getting the first shot, or flanking without detection anymore.
Sure, Rat King's invisibility will still work in Control and Iron Banner. The 6v6 format is so chaotic it makes radar pings easier to hide, and those playlists are a more casual experience meaning players aren't focusing/keenly aware of their radar or enemy positions. And yes, Rat King's catalyst will still trigger health regen after reloading after a kill, but if that's all I am to use it for, I might as well use Crimson as it has a much longer range and triggers health regen faster as it doesn't require a reload.
In short, Rat King's viability in competitive PvP ended with this change. I would like to see Rat King's invisibility be reverted to non-Void Invisibility so that it doesn't receive this change; or maybe Bungie can find another way to deal with the Void Invisibility issue, like adjust durations or cooldowns.

You must be sleeping on Rat King then. Rat King + Void Lock with so many exotics is nuts. Even the other classes are lethal if you can mix your loadouts up.
-
Good, less cheese.
-
They used a rat trap
-
Can it really die if it was never really an actual PvP pick to begin with?
-
Rat kings been dead for a while dude
-
Not everyone has super keen eyesight like yourself and they aren't trash for not having it. More often than not we'll see the invis player but not before it was too late. While it's a shame this inadvertantly nerfed an exotic, invis needed to be taken down a peg.

As a fighting lion main I feel for you. I understand that feeling completely. Make a system wide change that kinda screws over a weapon and makes it a casualty of overall game progress. I still use fighting lion sometimes, but even with the rollback to some of the nerfs it just doesn't feel the same... that blast radius nerd to an already low blast radius weapon hurt it so bad, on top of the reload nerf.

Edited by BurlyPanther0: 3/30/2022 12:52:32 PMIs it bad that I could summarize this into “My scuffy way of playing no longer rewards free kills cause people can see me on the radar” While I under that you feel like rat kings exotic perk now may feel useless, I’d argue that it’s even better if you have the catalyst for it. Sidearms by themselves are very strong, let alone one that turn you invis after a kill and restores health.

I'd use it if blink didn't make invisibility wear off.
-
Long live the king
-
The invis nerf to ping on radar ruined identity of nightstalker its like if they nerfed titan spamming melee for movement and never losing a melee charge would ruin titans completely. asif it's effects rat King aswell such a let down thought that little gem would atleast keep you of radar
-
Invisibility should have never taken the player off the radar in the first place. You are already invisible, why do you also need to be off the radar?
-
Or how about you get good and stop hiding like a coward, invisibility has no place in pvp and hunter invis should be reworked to remove invis or minimise it by an exponential amount
-
Put drang on and stop being a sneaky bych…. Only wimps use invis and over shields in pvp anyway 💪🤨
-
Assassins cowl also procs void invisibility regardless of your class. Wondering if it’s just an oversight on Bungies part.
-
Rat King is fine and has been fine since before Void 3.0. It's a free invis on kill and the catalyst lets you heal while turning invisible. You can still use the invis to sneak on someone who is looking the other way just like regular invis. And Rat King can be made to work just like any other sidearm. Also remember, it was designed to be better in "rat packs." The no-radar invis we had was just terrible. I will not miss it.

Rat king was never all that great to begin with, its a side arm with really bad ttk and it takes a lot of flinch.
-
Maybe majority players stopped utilizing it but I still run it almost constantly in pvp, its underrated for sure especially with the catalyst. It comes in clutch so often too idk why most don't use it.
-
Yes… they… have slowed my reign of terror… what is it you guardians say? Devotion inspires bravery…

I always saw the Rat King as sort of a funny meme weapon, a way to freak out other people who don't expect an invisible Titan or Warlock popping up out of nowhere. Buff the Rat King, I want to see six stacks running these in Control and Clash!

Pvp is just dying in general along with this game

Death to the cheese
-
He died in PvP, but he's still alive and well on the forum 💪
-
I didn't know the Drifter played competitive PvP

We need a rat king buff. THE INFESTATION WILL LIVE ON!!
