This is something my friend group has been discussing a lot, especially this season. We're exhausted with control. Nobody cares about capturing zones anymore, its just TDM but with a handicap that one team is getting two or three points per kill because the other team is completely ignoring objectives. The number of games in the last 5 months where one team's zone captures can be counted on one hand is disheartening.
I think lore wise, control was a good main playlist. I think as a gamemode, its very fun and engaging (provided people actually play the gamemode as its meant to be played). But unfortunately, in my opinion and the opinion of many people I talk with, it just doesn't seem to be a meaningful pvp experience. If everyone is just playing a TDM anyway, the zones are a source of frustration for some and are filtered out of everybody else's awareness. A huge part of a control game type is to funnel combat to predetermined locations using capture points. But if 75% of your lobby isn't playing for zones, then that defeats that entire purpose of having a zone. Instead people use the zones to create spawn traps (looking at you Dead Cliffs) and farm KD. Or just as a way to get a tiny bump in super energy before running off into a frenzy with no goal in mind other than to shoot at something.
To put a finer point on it, a person I was playing with just today exclaimed "Why would I waste 10 seconds capturing a zone when I could be killing somebody?". That's just the mentality of the player base in general it feels like. It would be nice if the main mode switched to something with no objective focus, like Clash, and Control were relegated to one of the weekly rotating gametypes instead.
In general, I don't know if much of the player base cares. But as someone who does care about the objective in an objective gamemode, its becoming increasingly infuriating to see 0 or 1 zone captures for an entire match under the majority of my teammates. I'm losing many games simply because my team will refuse indignantly to stand in a clearly marked circle that rewards them for doing so. I don't know what to do about it anymore other than to join the crowd and stop playing the point of the mode, or leave the mode altogether and exclusively play in something like the competitive playlist or rumble.
I'll even add a poll to see what the community thinks in regards to this as well. Vote if you haven't already please!

I am totally on board with that "big control/big clash" idea too! That would really help mix things up to keep pvp feeling fresh(er).
