I get where their head is at but yeah we already have very hard decisions to make build crafting in a very congested mod system. Making orb generation a mod is going to mean a lot less orbs floating around. Another poster suggested it should have been on the ghost, which would have made way more sense.
Edit: another issue I have with the change is, why masterwork guns now? The stat bump is almost insignificant, everyone did it for the orbs. They need to make up for what was lost on masterworked weapons.

I think Bungie knows masterworking weapons is pointless which is one of the reasons they're moving this aspect of masterworking away from it and to something else. Yes making it a ghost mod would have been better but that's only based on how we think these mods are going to play out so really, I'm waiting to see how the new system will actually function before I add to the hate comments. But back to weapon masterworking, I think weapon crafting is going to change this in some way. I agree the stat bump from masterworking is negligible. No one is looking at a weapon saying ah man, this weapon has all 4 perks I wanted but I got reload speed instead of handling.. the god roll is about the perks and the masterwork can be a nice bonus. I'm expecting some kind of change to this with weapon crafting, but we'll have to wait and see.
