TL;DR - Reissue sunset gear and make it available in the world pool. [u]The Problem:[/u] Sunsetting was one of the worse changes in Destiny. In a Polygon article interview with Luke Smith, he describes the reasons for sunsetting. Essentially it was to get you to use something else, but obviously they are fine with the Crucible meta being nothing but hand cannons and shotguns in 90% of engagements and maps. Below is an excerpt from the interview. [quote]This new max power system will create an “ongoing curation of a deck of cards,” according to Smith. “This is our way of continuing to drive chasing pursuit in the world.” Smith explained that this is the alternative to moving to a new game or deleting player’s current arsenal. Players can still use the guns they love, but the new system incentivizes them to move on if they want to stay competitive.[/quote] [u]Put On Conspiracy Theory Hat:[/u] This was more about getting you to invest more time by grinding new rolls than sticking with your same old rolls. They looked at metrics and saw the amount of time invested in grinding rolls was dropping and needed to get more people into the game playing longer to meet goals set by upper management. [u]Removing Conspiracy Theory Hat:[/u] [u]The Reverse Direction[/u] Just about a year later after being implemented, sunsetting was removed. All off the sunset weapons should be reissued. People spent time to grind for those weapons and then Bungie castrates the power, but then backpedals future caps, then issues gear and perk combinations that are stronger than some of the sunset gear. [u]The Solution:[/u] For seasonal/pinnacle or activity-specific weapons like Recluse, Mountaintop, Breakneck, Wendigo, Buzzard, Revoker, Hush, etc, these should just be available in the vendor where you originally earned them from if you had unlocked them prior. If the vendor is unavailable or vaulted, like items issued from Last Wish, then Amanda Holiday or someone else could hold them. Random and curated roll variants would be issued through the same sort of activities you played to obtained them originally (Gambit, Crucible, strikes). Ada could offer bounties for Black Armory weapons. The Gunsmith could bring back Armsday Orders from D1 to re-introduce world-obtained weapons. Remaining weapons would just be obtained through playing the activities and randomly from vendor rewards and engrams.
