So, I'm making this post because I'm a bit confused and I'm looking for more information. Today I know of three people who have been banned.
I was playing control with someone from LFG when mid-game they got error code Weasel. He then told us his account got banned and he had no idea why. Well, obviously, he's cheating... that was my first thought. So I looked up his account. He's a 1.3 KD player, honestly below average stats. However, since I didn't know him personally I just assumed he was lying and he was actually cheating and got banned.
Later on in the day while speaking to a friend I play trials with, he mentioned one of his friends was banned. I asked what happened and long story short they got an error code Weasel and got banned as well. They are a pve player with below-average pvp stats and both my friend and him said he has never cheated before.
At this point, I was thinking, wow what a weird coincidence... but it gets crazier.
After all of this I started playing with my friend that I mostly play pvp with. He is a top 0.1% player with really good stats but I've known him for years and know he doesn't cheat. I've seen him stream his game, he is an amazing player. Anyways, we were doing a public event on Nesus when he got error code Weasel. He made a joke along the lines "Ah yes perfect, I got banned." and everyone in the discord laughed. Then he went quiet and said "Wait no really, I just got banned." No one believed him until he shared his screen and yup, he was banned.
I can't speak for the other two people but I know my friend doesn't cheat and three people in one day it can't be a coincidence.
So, did this happen to anyone else today? Does anyone know what's going on?

Bans are manually implemented by Bungie staff after confirming a violation, so they can happen at any time, but are generally done in batches. It's not unusual to see different people get banned within days of each other and for different reasons. For a list of reasons why someone can be banned, see here. Some of the most common reasons people get banned are due to violating one or more terms of service: running a cheat program while playing the game (regardless if it's intended for D2), network manipulation, doing an account recovery (free or paid), or playing in a fireteam with someone who was cheating.
