He's not my fave character but I don't think he deserves all that hate... I think he was just created to guide the new/returning blueberries through the New Light quest (and also being a key character for Gjallarhorn quest), I don't see anything bad on that.
Probably we haven't seen the true potential of Shaw Han as character yet.
But well, where is the hate coming from?
-
Because of many reasons.... 1. He's not an OG 2. He's quickly thrown together and his face and general character design is awful. 3. Nobody has a reason to care about him aside from bounty grinding. 4. His story arc is basically your new light first job. After a couple of minimal interactions for quests, then he's quickly forgotten. Nobody forgot about Asher Mir, that dude was nuts. 5. He's on one of the most boring destinations possible. Again, newer guardians might not see it that way. And the bounty grinders are the only reason to go see him. And the dumb blueberry crumbles.

Truthfully, i dont have anything agaisnt Shaw Han. He Dosent seem bad to me because at least im glad that there is at least a guardian around the places. What rubbed me the wrong way is the fact how Bungie didn’t give him a good layout in the backstory of his, at least some flashbacks or some connection to any of the lores if he was mentioned previously that is what I believe. The armor he has is not to bad because i can see that parts of those are classic D1 as a hunter. Thats my opinion take as it is.

My spouse said that he looks like the main werewolf kid from the Twilight movies and now I can’t unsee it.
-
I hate that they could easily gave added Shiro instead of him. He also feels kind of plain, and boring, and is pretty much useless in the story and in game.
-
He's a generic wax figure looking cardboard space taker upper.
-
-
IMO the dude look like a fortnite x Destiny collab gone horribly horribly wrong. Every time I look at Shaw he reminds me why I keep the helmet on.
-
I think it's because he's so plain with 0 depth. In others words, bungie spent thousands of dollars making a new character/vendor who serves little purpose and has nothing interesting about him. Plus his dialog is annoying, especially the radio dialog on Europa. Personally I think rather than make retconning Saint and Osiris as gay lovers they should have made Shaw a new gay character and had his lover be one of his fireteam members who died by Navota. It would have made his much better as a character and added depth.
-
He's like a bad comic book character. He's so poorly written that virtually everything out of his mouth is a cliche of some sort. I don't hate him. But I find him rather annoying.
-
Because he looks like an overcooked ps2 spiderman npc model

He's ugly AF

Probably because alot of destiny veterans played the new light campaign and he still speaks to you like a new light player. Similar to how Lord saladman doesn't acknowledge those who completed the rise of iron campaign and became an Iron lord.
-
He looks like Russell Wilson and he’s leaving the Seahawks now I can’t stand to look him either. 😩😂
-
Because it’s the same voice actor as Shiro-4, so it just should have been Shiro-4. No idea why they just made some bland, boring character instead of bringing back of everyone favorite bladedancer from rise of iron.
-
It should have been Shiro
-
Because he's some rando who just appears out of the blue. We have a long list of characters who could be wrangling new Guardians like Shiro who is a great example. Shawn Han just carries himself and looks like some random newbie who got rezzed a few weeks before our New Lights and is now barking orders and given charge of operations in Cosmodrome. I know Red War messed us up, but it's almost like Vanguard is hurting for Guardians now. Won't be long til he's Hunter Vanguard at this point.

1. Fortnite face. 2. He is basically the in-game manifestation of Bungie not putting effort into Destiny’s “campaign”. 3. Fortnite face. 4. He is the face of the new light quest, which is a joke. I’m an OG D1 player, so I’m definitely biased in the way that I think the Destiny universe should be presented to new lights. My biggest problem with Shaw is that he is the first character that new players interact with in-game (besides ghost), and he is not Destiny’s best side by any stretch.

People actually hate an irrelevant video game vendor NPC? Wasted energy.
-
I just don't know why his name isn't just shawn

Edited by NoHumorMan: 1/2/2022 4:44:35 PMHe should be used better. All the npc's should be used better. They are constantly being left out and made unimportant, when Bungie should find ways to include them more in the story, offering their particular insight. After a few missions with each introduced npc, they are just left to rot and waste space in the game. A good storyteller do not add characters to waste space - makes it feel not worth connecting to the characters.

Maybe because he has not enough back story. People usually criticizes things and people they don't really know. Also, his face might be seen as lacking personality, be a bit generic. Honestly, I'd add a scar on one of his cheeks to remind the fact that he lost his team and remove some symmetry to his face, and I'd make him take part of some future exotic or catalyst as a mini cutscene that plays in game just like the Bray sisters ones maybe. Or even add a few lines to him in such quests to say something like: "I know you don't like me much but I really need your help for this" or something around those lines, so that you somehow get to have a bit of history with him.
-
I don't personally hate him, just think he's a hypocrite. He goes off about guardians using Stasis, but is openly walking around wearing Ahamkara bones. He's using the bones of an ancient enemy that has killed vast numbers of humans and awoken alike, all to make his grenades blow up a little bigger. Not that I'm against Ahamkara armor, just don't like him high roading us when he does the same thing.
-
The thing is that he's a boring plank of wood that looks like he got lost on his way to Fortnite. The latter is unlikely to change, but he would be better appreciated if he had more character to him.
-
He doesn’t even look like he belongs in D2’s art style. He looks more like an unused asset in a scrapped project that Bungie just crammed into the game.
