Heya!
Warlock main here! (But play all three).
Love build crafting various builds but main stasis lock.
After recent patches something felt off, figured it just needed me adjusting to the changes, but one moment things were fine, the next they felt very inconsistent.
Couldn't quite put my finger on it.
Last night i decided to update my main build a little to try and adapt to the changes. Made a build, and took it for a spin to test drive a bit.
Various things became clear, things aren't working right.
The most important one is stasis shards. My build revolves around them and they kick off a chain of various loops in the build. The issue is with creating them. To my surprise a penumbral blast melee only creates shards (yes i have harvest rime Conduction equipped) half of the time!
I started doubting myself, searching YouTube for older video material in comparison. Switched to my revenant, where every single shuriken still creates shards
Did some more testing on the lock. 3 adds, melee. Zero shards. Next group of adds, melee. Shards. Very inconsistent 😑
Believe theres more going on yet less noticeable. Utility Kickstart for example sometimes doesn't appear to kick in. Throw rift, 25% returned (stacked Utility) another moment nothing.
Tested various things across classes, it seems Shadebinder is the only one facing these issues.
Rime Overshield, you barely get any anymore.
It already felt a bit off that on Revenant a shuriken bounce can get 3 shards easily, revenant gets way more melee return per shardl and a boatload more Overshield, but regardless of that i can't imagine this was intentional.
Same deal with frostpulse freezes by the way.
Any lock players feedback and experiences would be much appreciated
@bungie Hopefully someone is willing to take a look into these issues! On a side note mad props for the anniversary and dawning stuff, loving it! Especially the snowballs 😜
Edit: feel free to contact me in case any other info is required i could make some vids if need be
Edit2:
I've done some more investigating starting off by going to courts sheet to refresh how some stuff works exactly.
I then went over the past few twabs and patch notes to find possible relationships, there are several possibilities but ill highlight the ones i suspect to be the most important/relevant.
From sheet:
Definition of "Glacial Harvest" freezing enemies creates stasis shards around the enemy, minors = 1, elites = 2, champions and bosses = 3
15 seconds cooldown after 6 shards.
Definition of "Freeze" freeze can be shattered by 200 damage, dealing AoE stasis damage.
Freeze that times out does no damage.
Freeze lasts for 6 seconds preventing all movement and action. Bosses automatically shatter after 3 seconds and aren't slowed.
From patch notes 3.4.0:
Uncharged Melee
Reduced melee range from 5.5m to 4.5m (now matches Hunter and Titan).
Reduced suppression time after melee (can now melee back-to-back at the same speed as Hunter and Titan).
Penumbral Blast melee
Increased cooldown duration from 95s to 113s.
Increased proximity detonation radius vs. Pve combatants by 100%.
Hypothesis:
By decreasing range, increasing proximity detonation, or a combination thereof, penumbral blast melees in certain circumstances exceed damage values or parameters to count as a freeze and instead are registering as a normal kill, hence no shard is created. (Or maybe somewhat of a race condition?) Or result in Glacial Harvest not being triggered at all.
Also i am now even more certain it is not a matter of cooldown. Glacial Harvest cooldown was already there.
And would blink in the bottom left screen once 6 shards collected within 15 seconds. You will find this no longer is the case simply because you can't generate enough shards anymore to proc the cooldown 😜
