I've been having sever crashing issues on the Microsoft Store version of the game. It has gotten to the point where I decided to time each crash and try every feasible method to correct the issue, which I will list below. Perhaps someone can think of something I didn't.
As a side note, I've switched to the steam version of the game and do not have any issues with it crashing, so I don't believe it is due to computer malfunction or user error.
Relevant PC specs:
AMD Ryzen 5900X liquid cooled
MSI B550M
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
32GB DDR4 3600MHz
B1TB Intel 660p M.2 NVME (MS version installed here)
WD Blue 2TB HDD (Steam version here)
Windows Home latest version
(May be relevant to test if storing on an M.2 NVME vs HDD is causing the issue, will update when I get a chance)
If applicable, it was tested with and without running as administrator. Windows event ID is 1001 in every instance. As for the aforementioned timer, I crash anywhere between twenty-seven and thirty-one minutes of gameplay. This timer starts at the login screen and ends with a crash to desktop.
Windows program reset
Uninstalling and reinstalling / Clearing Cache
Updated Graphics drivers
Clean install of Graphics drivers
Windows game settings modified (Tried all of them)
Changing priority in task manager
NVIDIA Shader cache turned off / on with different storage sizes
Overclocks on/off (Did not try Underclocking)
Enabling and disabling Firewall.
Antivirus on / off. Even tried it uninstalled incase of user error.
Disabled fullscreen optimization
Closed all programs not Destiny related
Removed CVARS.xml
Tried almost every possible combination of graphics settings ingame (I'm certain I missed a few)
Tried various refresh rates
Disabled Game bar by renaming its executable
Manually assigned hardware to program
Moved GFSDK_Aftermath_lib.dll to the root folder of the game via Linux; also tried copying it. (Stupid Trusted Installer BSery)
This is in no particular order of course, but if anyone has any idea to fix the crashes that doesn't involve switching to consoles or resetting my pc that would be awesome. It should be noted that the first time I booted the game I had no issues whatsoever as I played for about 2.5 hours on Europa before getting off. Problems started the next time I booted the game.
Additional possibly related symptoms:
Game will sometimes completely freeze PC on login attempt after not playing for awhile without restarting PC. Example: Boot the game and play for half hour. Return the next day and the program freezes on login attempt. There is no method to recover from this state without a computer restart via power button as it freezes the entire system minus sound.
Oddly enough when the 30th Anniversary came out, I did not crash the first time playing until about 4.5 hours in game. At the two hour mark, I bought the Anniversary pack and opened Firefox. Perhaps other programs decrease the time it takes to crash? Will test this out.
I am incredibly disappointed that I bought the pack when I did as I specifically waited until I thought the game was fixed before buying it. The fact that I simply did not test it long enough and I am now regularly crashing again makes me want a refund since it is borderline unplayable for anything longer than a strike. I've been a long time fan of Destiny and Bungie as a whole, so please help me out here. At least let me play the portions of the game I bought on my Microsoft account on the Steam version without having to buy it again while the problem is solved, especially seeing as the MS version of the product is absolute garbage at this moment.
