It’s always simple to tell who was fighting. That’s easy.
With the Eliksni, the telltale tracks of a spider tank always give them away. If not, the sheer tonnage of IEDs left in their wake will clue you in.
With Hive it’s, well... The Hive. They aren’t like us, there’s very little reverence for their fallen comrades. Makes it simple to tell if they won or lost a fight though. The trick is looking for the swords. If you find any, that means they were all wiped out. Those blades pass from hand to hand, they are unfathomably ancient, to see one discarded is a rare thing indeed.
People fear the hive. People fear the darkness.
But they also feared you, too.
I know.
When I think about the darkness, all I see is the hive. The foot soldiers of the army of hell. It’s conceivable. They are evil creatures that want to eat us. I get it. I can work with that.
But, it’s never been the darkness that keeps me up at night.
I skirt past the bodies of a captain and a knight. The captain had dug four arc blades into various parts of the knight, and after what appears to be quite a struggle, collapsed together, the knight pinning the captain beneath its chitinous bulk.
The darkness is evil. It makes sense. I can shoot arrows at evil.

They didn’t understand.

It was necessary for my work.

...
But the void.... is.
Foreign. But not in the sense that it is different, but devoid of all familiarity.
We are taught that void light is the absence of light, of anything. The manipulation of raw matter. To not create or to destroy, but to twist the entire equation. To stare into the void, is a lonely path.
Amongst the warlocks, the void walkers stick together. Many guardians detest their Void light, but unified as they are, they are untouchable. The sentinel titans are the same, yet they have always been beloved...
It’s not so for us, Night-stalkers. We aren’t unified. In fact, lot of night-stalkers hate nothing more than other night-stalkers. Kind of like cats. Reality bending, void bow wielding cats.
I call to the void, the absence of light, and it answers. I don’t become the void, I don’t control the void, I simply direct it.
For all that which I have stared into it, I have gleamed nothing. The absence of information on the absence of light.
But what’s worse? No one knows. In my youth, I broke into the warlock tower. I had to know. I had to know if anyone knew. Anything.
I thought for sure in their unity the voidwalkers might at least have some theories... But no.
They’ve just accepted that the wiggly purple devouring light of death is a gift from their benevolent god.
But I don’t know.
You do.
Maybe they were always right.
They were.
Maybe I am dangerous.
You are.
I summon my void bow to my hand, and stare deep into the gleaming unlight of the void, humming with infinite, encompassing emptiness.
What is it you desire?
...More.
