So I should like to open a discussion about Sparrows and whether or not it's time they receive some changes.
No one really has a reason to use a Sparrow with a speed lower than 160 unless they're a brand new player and have nothing else. And it's not like SRL (Sparrows Racing) is every coming back so why have different speeds in the first place? Every if SRL did return Bungie would have to bring all Sparrows to the same speed anyway to keep things fair for new players. Even still the only instances where having a good Sparrow (like the Always on Time) matters is in Master and Grandmaster Exodus Crash Nightfalls. You could argue Sparrow perks matter in the entrance Encounter of the Deep Stone Crypt raid but most players just prefer to transmat inside unless they're after secret chest.
Add to this we can reroll most Sparrows for the speed teir and perks we want in the Collections tab. So why not remove the middle man and save everyone the headache? I find most people prefer their Sparrow for its cosmetic value, and the only Sparrow players fawn over for its perks is the Always on Time. So is it time perhaps Sparrows became more like Ghost Shells? Maybe Bungie should bring all Sparrows up to 160 speed, that way you don't have to sacrifice the look of a Sparrow you love for just for speed and perks.
Perhaps they could even add mod slots that allow players to pick and choose what features they want on their Sparrows? For example, Autoloader, Destablizers, Vernier Thrusters, Transmat Preloader, etc... maybe even Stealth Drive perhaps (for those who've already unlocked the Always on Time)? It's not like Bungie would lose Antin making this change if anything it might give people more incentive to spend money on Sparrows in the Eververse store, if you don't like the perks that fancy new Sparrow comes with you can just change them to suit your liking.
I don't know process exactly but making such a change to Sparrows is far from impossible in my mind. Changing their speed is probably as simple as (again I don't know Destiny 2's coding or system) going into the game files altering the necessary speed values for the required vehicles. Obviously giving Sparrows mod slots and masterwork capabilities is a more complicated affair, but the framework for this system already exists because Ghost Shell perks used to work exactly like Sparrow perks do now. Many if the mods available for Ghosts were once perks the shell had to roll with and many players would spend resources trying to roll a Ghost Shell with their desired combination, that, was until Bungie changed it. So it's certainly not beyond the devs capabilities.
Regardless, what are your thoughts and ideas? I will try to respond to everyone as I am able.
