I know the type that will immediately see this thread's title and think, "Oh god, another one of these complainers, git gud," so I want to address those people directly: being stunlocked (or in Destiny's case, frozen) simply is not fun for anybody except the player who is doing it. Sure, you feel powerful, but that power is not out of skill: it is out of disabling the other player.
There have been several games throughout history that have had stun mechanics, and we have seen time and time again how they (typically) do not belong in PvP games. To list a few...
- Team Fortress 2
- Portal's (thankfully long dead) PvP gamemode
- Overwatch
- Titanfall
- World of Warcraft PvP
- SWTOR PvP
- League of Legends (ew)
- Anthem (CORRECTION: Anthem 2.0 never released, meaning PvP was never in play. Still had stun mechanics, though.)
- Street Fighter (sort of?)
These games have had their controversy with stunning, and they've all come to the same conclusion: it is not fair in PvP. Are you going to deny nearly two decades of well-documented evidence?
Recent Call of Duty games address stunlocks by giving players a chance to leave before they trigger: giving players a chance to see the danger (danger being a stun grenade) and leave is a huge difference in terms of balance. In COD's case, the player has already had an advantage over you (you having not seen or acknowledged the signal of danger) and the stun simply replaces an attack that would otherwise kill you anyway. Almost every grenade in Destiny 2 has a visual trigger that can be detected (and reacted to) before it reaches you. Glacier grenades are instantaneous. Super freezes are instantaneous. Shatterdive is instantaneous, and the low cooldown defines it as an especially unfair, instant kill ability that violates the flow of the game.
Remember when PvP was more about guns and not about abilities? We have a generation of Stasis Hunters who've become shotgun-sliding Shatterdive drones. It's not a matter of fun for these players: it's efficiency. The least amount of interaction for the most damage. They can turn on a podcast, turn off their brains, and ruin players' days while they rack up virtual weaponry from whichever Titan is overseeing the game at the time. Doesn't that sadden you?
"Harrier, there's so many other instant-kill methods in PvP. Are you gonna ignore snipers, linear fusion rifles, Supers, and heavy ammo weaponry?"
I shouldn't have to respond to that, but monkeys aren't known for slinging sanitary things. Snipers emit a light when aimed down sights, signaling players that there is, in fact, immediate danger if they get in sight. Linear fusions are not immediate: these charge-up weapons rely on players being able to read movements in order to time the charge properly. The window created by this charge-up should be a perfect opportunity to consider things tactically? Supers and heavy ammo are signaled in chat, giving you an immediate visual that there's a new danger on the battlefield.
You, as a player, should recognize that it's unfair to fight against stun mechanics. Games aren't about winning. Even if you don't get brownie points or extra goodies for doing it, don't use Stasis in PvP. At least, not in its current state-- do your part to get Bungie to implement changes that can heal the wounds of this last year. Make your voice heard.

Hunter smoke grenade: 👀
Remember when PvP was more about guns and not about abilities?
No. Freezing has been pulled back so much that you're better off just looking at it like any of many ohk things in the game whether they have a light attached to them or they don't. And a lot of people probably don't agree, but shatterdive has the same basic effect as other things in the game as well. You're going to see shatterdive more right now because there's more people who play hunters and when it comes to the other two classes there's more variety to what their light subclasses can do right now.

Ya you’re about 10mos late on that convo, guy

Handheld supernova and SC say hello. Also...shatterdive has a 4 second cooldown sure...but glacier has a 1 and a half minute cooldown...so not really fast.

I agree, destiny has added to much nonsense to the game. Mods and this and that, keep it simple.
Sure, you feel powerful, but that power is not out of skill
Buddy, this is Destiny. Nothing we do is out of skill.

Anthem was a PvE only game? Unless we're thinking of different games
