I think it’s important to be clear & concise on what works best for Trials in Destiny 2, & what hasn’t. Here’s my Final verdict:
:: Matchmaking ::
I think splitting the player base is fine. There are some adjustments I’d make, in order to alleviate some of the pressure points high skilled, & low skilled players have. 1st, remove the account wide flawless feature, & make it strictly character based. In addition; allow players to reset their card at any point, to lower themselves on the skill Totem, after going flawless. This would serve as a means to remove themselves from the more competitive scene, & back into the standard level matchmaking, if they see fit. However; If you’ve reached flawless before the end of the weekend (Friday/ Saturday) on any of your characters, you’ll be locked in the flawless pool, even when resetting your card.
:: After Going Flawless 7-0 ::
It should go without saying that if you’re in the trials playlist; your goal should always be to go flawless. However, once you’re in the flawless matchmaking pool, every game you play (win or lose) should grant you an accumulative chance at receiving an additional adept weapon drop, from that weeks offering. Winning games would grant around a 70% drop chance, & losses 20%. The more games you win, the more likely your odds are at receiving an adept weapon. The more you lose, the lower your odds. Though you still have a chance to receive a drop, just as a safety feature to keep you invested.
:: Saint-14 Bounties ::
Open the lighthouse to flawless players as a new social hub, for the whole weekend. Give saint-14 a new set of flawless pinnacle bounties, that award the following for completions, Only In The Flawless Matchmaking Pool;
Bounties To Collect & Complete
• Additional adept weapon mod
• Trials shaders (which include trials of the nine)
• Trials Weapon ornaments (legendaries & exotics)
• Trials Emotes
• Trials Sparrows
• Trials Ship
• Trials Ghosts
• Trials Transmat effects
• Trials Emblems
These bounties:
• Do Not Expire
• Are Not Repeatable
• Grant XP++
• No RNG (each bounty shows the reward attached to it, as guaranteed.)
These bounties would encourage the usage of different weapons for that week, in the flawless matchmaking pool only. Some would also include performing a certain number of actions with your fireteam, or winning a certain number of matches for that day. These bounties cannot be completed in the non-flawless matchmaking lobbies.
And that concludes my take.

Agreed now we just need GMs and Master raids to become easier for players who don’t want to practice or form fireteams as well. It only seems fair that if you are going to make one part of endgame content easier for one group of players who struggle and harder for players that put the time in to practice and improve their skill. That all endgame content should be given the same treatment. GMs and master raids should be made harder for players who beat them in any given week for the remainder of that week and easier for players who don’t. To learn more about this concept I have created a post here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/259712647/0/0

Flawless pool would be far less salty if losses still could give adepts. I can’t even get an engram for losses on a normal card. They need to sweeten the deal for flawless queue though or make it where having 2 or more people who’ve gone flawless in same fireteam that weekend get forced into flawless queue to prevent 3 stack flawless from noob farming as easy since one of biggest issues is the 3 stacks. If you solo queue and went flawless imo you shouldn’t get tossed into flawless queue because solo queue is rough and loses most matches vs 3 stacks.

Great feedback but there's something you're missing. If lower skilled players keep getting stomped 5-0 they will just stop playing. Last week I was getting stomped. Saint 14 rewards are irrelevant. Losing match after match and not get 1 round win is not fun.
-
Well done and great ideas. Hope Bungie reads this and takes you seriously.

My skills, or rather lack thereof, are what's keeping me from getting flawless. And I'm completely okay with that. I don't want flawless handed to me (which is why I'll never sign up for a carry). I do, however, enjoy the game mode. And it was enjoyable this weekend not being constantly steamrolled 0-5. Playing as a solo, I have managed to get two toons to 7 wins on a flawed card so far. And even the losses this weekend, of which there were plenty, were, for the most part, more engaging. Here are some thoughts I had on how to try and continue to improve the experience for all: Institute the solo only playlist (freelance). The freelance mode operates at this week's trial settings. There are enough built-in barriers to going flawless in the solo que, ie. random teams, lack of communication, etc, that most will not go flawless, despite the potentially inferior competition. Some will, because they are that good, but if and when they do, they are moved to the general population mode, if they wish to continue playing. It would also make gatekeeping harder, since they'd have to do it as solos. The regular mode operates at week one settings. Folks would be able to continue to play with friends and/or help with carries if that is what they'd like to do, despite having gone flawless. Lastly, can continue to experiment with the flawless pool, for those that are actually interested in a higher level of competition and/or better rewards (how they are rewarded still needs to be tweaked). Institute a (still to be determined) combination of sticks (for example, players who have gone flawless, but continue to play in the general pool only receive half the rep gains they normally would) and carrots (for example, rep gains are increased to 1.25 of normal and there is a 'flawless pool' rewards tree for those playing in the flawless pool) to encourage participation in the flawless pool, to both deter folks from just farming inferior competition and entice them with better/more unique rewards. I realize this could potentially split the player base, but tweeks could be made as data comes in, to help all 3 modes remain healthy. If in the end, there's simply not enough population to maintain a mode, then further changes can be made, based on the data accumulated during this time.

Edited by Sohsuh: 9/20/2021 1:43:19 PMOr they could, you know, put it to how it was on a record breaking weekend, with a massive population, and with the vast majority giving it positive reviews. Call me crazy I dunno. One weekend MASSIVE amounts of positive reviews with record breaking numbers = we need to change it One weekend MASSIVE amounts of negative reviews, much smaller population, and CIVILWAR trending on twitter = we should keep this

Edited by Mister Kanga: 9/19/2021 3:36:47 PMYour matchmaking solutions won't work because 1) if it's character based, they'll just do what they are doing now, only on their 3rd toon, after going flawless on the first two. and 2) the upper echelon has proven this weekend that they don't in fact want competition, so if they can just reset their card and go back into the normal pool, that's what they'll do. I am all for making the flawless pool more rewarding for those can reach it (won't be me). Bungie changed the loot structure to entice new, inexperienced and bad pvpers to enter and play trials. They need to do the same to entice players who've gone flawless to play in the flawless pool.

I made a post throwing out an idea that unfortunately went unnoticed. I believe all that really needs to be done at least right now is to remove the stipulation that you stop getting Adept drops when you lose a game Post Lighthouse. Give the Flawless folks a very good incentive to not reset.
-
Honestly, I don't agree with everything here but its probably the best compromise of both sides
-
Great ideas! Give players a reason to stay in the flawless pool. Lots of them. Brilliant.
-
I disagree with character based flawless. This move would pretty much destroy the reason of having 2 match making pools and once again kill off the trials game mode in the end. If they made it so after flawless and wins after that has a chance to drop the adept for a flawless passage. The higher amount of wins of the flawless passage the higher chance at the adept reward. Something like 1 win post flawless has a 10% and it goes up by 10% every subsequent win to a total of 70%. You can add all the cosmetic rewards as well. That way the non flawless playlist still has upgrade materials and normal weapons and people at a high skill level can just switch characters whenever they want and stomp the non flawless playlist. Ps: I ran a flawed passage Saturday evening and all day Sunday and decided to go flawless in the last hour of the session. I could have gone flawless a lot sooner if I wanted but there is still a lack of incentive.
-
I don't mind the flawless lobby nonsense when you are still on your flawless card. Grinding additional adept drops after flawless shouldn't be a cake walk. But when you reset that should be it. You are back in the normal matchmaking pool. The problem last weekend was whenever you went flawless you were taken out of the flawless pool and put into the pool where people had losses on their cards resulting in those individuals getting stomped 5-0 while people farmed adepts. Seems like bungie either goes extreme one way or extreme the other.
-
Holy -blam!-, I cannot believe I am typing this, but I agree with this streamer's take....
-
No one cares what someone selling carries thinks. Move along. You ruined the game mode in the first place we don’t need your feedback ruining it further.
-
Your first point assumes Bungie can get matchmaking done correctly. I think the real problem lies there. Bungie can't figure out SBMM.
-
Trials is trash now and going to get even worse when they make it zone capture
-
So buff fusion rifles?
-
Character based flawless not ‘account’ would be better
-
Who are you again?
-
they need to make it so that trials counts all your match wins, regardless if you reset the card or not. this way, those b*stards who are farming low skill players like me, are still stuck in the flawless matches even if they reset their card, cause they'd have 7 wins. or make it so that anyone who has gone flawless at all this season, is put in the flawless pool from the start. it's a god d*mn nightmare playing trials when all you're matched against are exploiters, flawless players, and stacked teams every single game. i managed to get the 7 weekly wins, but only after losing close to 30 matches.
-
Agree with everything except matchmaking. Changing the card (reset) does not changes your real skill. I mean it's not as if you will play with less skill or one hand 😂 Point is that as long as there is a fair progression and people are allowed to play in their own pool then it's fine. 1 win vs 1 win is as good as 7 win vs 7 win. Flawless v flawless is good and if you dont want to go flawless then don't win. Like you said, the goal must be to go flawless. The problem is "carry". Whether it is paid or otherwise. This should just be removed and discouraged from the game. The feeling of winning a match on your own terms is what should make you flawless. I went flawless in D1 and it was before the streamers came to the game. I even stream sniped a top streamer back in those days (the term was not invented back then). Admittedly, I was carried last week but I don't want this anymore. I paid for this game and I want to play it how its supposed to be played. If I'm not good for flawless then so be it. I don't deserve the lighthouse trip. This system of finding flaws in flawless matching (pun intended) is an effect and not the cause. A top streamer should just go flawless and sweat against the flawless tier to gain viewers and not gain viewers by resetting at 6 and "carrying" others to lighthouse via raffle or subs. This should be discouraged and honestly that will shut a lot of complaints. Finally, your identification of flawless+ victories is what I like. You want more rewards, just busy ur -blam!- for it. After all, you have already proven that u r good for flawless rewards. So more loot for you! This is also a good incentive to git gud for the rest of us. The game needs balance and be on par with other pvp games otherwise it will be a joke forever. I mean how people even talk about this game in uni or schools now. All the sweats joke that Bungie should not make this a Dad Game. Well, it is unfortunately a dad game (I am not comfortable using the mom game term sorry) and no one talks about it in younger gen like they talk about other pvp games.

Would making the trials passage ticket 100k glimmer be a good/bad thing?

Can I get a name change plz @Bungie - old
From what you are proposing, this has got to be the best idea's no cap. I had to re-read it a couple of times to make sure I was giving my feedback correctly. The matchmaking idea and the going past 7 wins ideas are great. The 70% chance of getting an Adept weapon is good but 20% is too low. I was wondering if 25% or even 30% could be the baseline instead of 20%. And Character-based matchmaking can be a nice change of pace instead of account-wide. Your Saint-14 bounties concept is great and I hope they implement that immediately. However, players should acquire the bounties and complete them in the non-flawless and Flawless matchmaking pool because you are rewarding the players time Investment in both pools and not just in the Flawless Matchmaking lobbies only. That is my feedback on your Verdict, overall I like it and I would support this. There are some areas that can be re-worked and fine-tuned. I hope you can understand where I am coming from. And I hope your day or weekend is going well. -
Edited by BarretOblivion: 9/19/2021 3:07:37 AMMake it character based. Also don't you lose the ability to 'farm' for the adept weapon drops post flawless if your card becomes flawed from losing the games after 7 wins? If that's the case just remove that dumb restriction once you hit flawless. Then more players would stick with that flawless card and keep playing even if they lose with a chance to win and get another roll of the weekly adept.
