Since the Vanguard Reputation rework, I've been having trouble maximising my Vanguard Rep due to how it works... even playing to how the description say it works doesn't work as intended most of the time; unless I grind Nightfalls, in which it seems to work as intended.
To avoid confusion, this is me quoting the "Vanguard Streak" description from within the game.
"Complete strikes and Seasonal activities to gain Vanguard Rank Points. Complete them back-to-back to increase your activity streak. Earn more Rank Points with higher streaks for higher difficulty Nightfalls."
I've done the Vanguard Strikes back-to-back (Remaining in matchmaking) on multiple occasions since this season started and only gotten a 1/5 streak for 4 - 5 strikes in a row. Yet, when I do the Nightfall multiple times in a row, it counts each Nightfall completed to the streak total. Either the wording of the description is vague and can be misinterpreted, or it's not programmed correctly and only works with the afore mentioned Nightfalls... which renders the Vanguard Playlist pointless at that point.
I've heard that it may have something to do with "Joining Allies" teleporting you further into the strike negating the streak gain, as well as joining a strike half-way through or at the end boss doing that... but I don't know for certain if those are the primary causes, or if it is (as mentioned earlier in the post) just poorly programmed and buggy for the Vanguard Strikes playlist.
I would like to know what's going on with this so we can avoid any further confusion and frustration!

This is a known issue. Bungie has mentioned to address it.
-
Both Gambit and Vanguard take forever to level up now. Crucible moves fast thanks to Mayhem. I already have the rocket launcher emblem in Crucible but haven’t even gotten to the rocket launcher on gambit or vanguard. XP seems to be moving real slow especially in Gambit.
-
One thing i do know is going to the tower or any destination will cancel the streak.

streaks in general have been bugged lately, i have lost rounds in ib and gained streak progress
-
I don't know if someone got it right but I'm pretty sure gambit, crucible, and vanguard ranks don't have anything to do with wins anymore. (Not like you could win a strike anyway, but I digress.) Now it works by how long you stay in those playlists. So play 10 crucible games in a row without starting another activity and you'll get a 5 streak after 5 games. Same goes for gambit and vanguard. Just keep playing strikes or vanguard activities and don't start another mission. I think the tower is fine though.

Just ran 3 strikes for the Weekly Pinnacle on Xbox. Same random people, no one pulled us forward, no one quit and we ended up making 60 points in each strike. Clearly Bungle has intentionally broken this to prolong the Grind and impede our progress.

Return to orbit during the post game summary of each strike. That let the streak counter go up for me. Staying in matchmaking after each strike caused me to not gain streak.

Edited by Trav: 9/8/2021 4:43:45 PMIf anyone is curious rumble and legend nightfall ordeals are the fastest way to get a lot of reputation quickly
-
That behavior is the definition of bugged. Strikes are bugged and miss games if the slightest anomaly happens where nightfall doesn’t. That being said, it could be working just fine and Nightfall is bugged. With Bungie’s history this is most likely the case. Lol
-
Yeah bungie needs to say it’s broken already
-
It works by doing 3 strikes each week and getting the pinnacle drop. Then once at max pinnacle, never play another strike for the rest of the season.
-
Joining allies resetting the streak is straight up dumb

60, 60, 90, 110, 120, 135.

Sure can! It don’t. Have a nice day🙂

How is there not a streak counter on the screen somewhere? This is a terrible omission. They either forgot and never thought of it.
-
Joining allies and launching a different activity (in this case the strike playlist vs the ordeals) reset the vanguard streak. I got absolutely no idea why it's like that.

Edited by Oinkthebaconking: 9/8/2021 2:55:30 AMSpeedrunners cause a reset of the streak by locking you into a load screen. It's a bug. Bungie claims they are working on it. Aside from that, just do your daily bounties and change characters and repeat. Don't play the game Bungie's way. I'm like rank 9 or 10 just from daily bounties doing a strike or two here and there. Rank 16 will be here soon enough and linear fusions are the heavy meta this season so that rocket launcher will be second rate until particle deconstruction is gone.

There definitely needs to be some clarification on how the streak functions. If the "Joining Allies" does in fact cause the streak to reset, then that is either a bug or a poorly design choice and needs to be corrected. The only times that the streak should be reset is when a player either leaves an in-progress strike or when they select a new activity.
-
1 streak per strike/NF You can leave the match making and go to the tower or the helm....but doing any other activity or landing on another planet it will reset it to 0 It seem joining in progress won't give you a streak All of this is also true for gambit and crucible
-
If you stay in the matchmaking sequence after the strike, the streak will continue. If you leave and go to orbit and relaunch you disrupt the streak

Edited by glaurung: 9/8/2021 9:12:44 AMThese are things that exist in my limited experience testing it out: 1. The streak bonus for strikes goes up all the way to 135 points per strike. That is the maximum for regular playlist strikes. 2. There is no visual indication for the streak anywhere in the game. Your only way to know about it and its status is to complete a Vanguard activity. Edit: apparently there is, it is just barely noticeable when hovering over the Vanguard node in the Director. 3. The streak bonus is binary: it either exists or it does not. What this means is that when it gets reset, you go back to level zero, not lose a streak level like with other streaks currently in the game. 4. Gettin the JOINING ALLIES screen resets the streak to zero (I expect this is intentional to punish AFKers or anyone expecting other players to run ahead and pull them). 5. Doing anything other than going to the Tower/HELM resets the streak to zero. This includes landing in a patrol area. 6. Changing characters also seems to reset the streak to zero. It is... Not great.

Edited by mja calg: 9/7/2021 8:34:25 PMThe other issue is that they have broken some strikes (like Broodhold) which will end your streak because you can not complete it. You get stuck on the wrong side of a barrier and can not progress beyond the first encounter with the witch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSvuDOE2Nw4 Bungle hasn't even bothered to fix this yet. I'm sure it's not even on their Radar, judging from the way the TWABs are written. But anything that curtails our progress and extends our grind time is exactly what they want to happen. Much cheaper and easier for Bungle if we have to repeat the same content so they can take the money we cough up for a season and use it to fund their other games in development without them doing a lick of work on Density.

Edited by PVP SUX: 9/7/2021 7:40:01 PMThis is my grasp of the streaks so far. I know people shout RNG, but that to me is strange when i look at what happened this weekend. Ok the Legendaries that drop is few, and NF armory even scarcer. Not to mention exotics. But i got a couple of drops during my first runs, and when i hit Streaks, i got even Exotics and Hung Jury / Hotheads to drop, several in fact. 2 Catalysts, 6 exotics, 2 Hung jurys and 5 Hotheads! and a chunk of engrams and materials as well! This is during a span of 1,5 days and maybe 40-50 runs of Hero NF! That to me is pretty dang good Sure i already had the exotics before, but still, they dropped When i reseted my Nightfall rank or streaks, there were no drop to mention. But after i hit it, well! Not a coincidence! The streak remains as long as you, as mentioned before are still in the activity, it seem however to give you a "strike" if you lose the connection and have not completed the NF, BUT the completed streaks remain even if you log off and return at a later date!
