Hi everyone,
My name is Elenor Smith and I am in my final year of my Psychology (Honours) degree at Flinders Uni.
I know you receive lots of requests to participate in research so I appreciate you taking a moment to consider this opportunity, which I hope is seen as worthwhile.
The study is seeking up to 500 current Destiny 2 players to complete a paid survey about the psychology of gaming routines and game design features. I know that many of you may feel understandably cautious about surveys collecting information (I have received feedback about privacy, phishing, scams etc).
This survey is different from others because it is facilitated by Prolific – all participants will be paid through the Prolific payment system and no personal information (email etc) is being collected by our research team. You set up your account on Prolific (takes a few min) and then you can access our study and be paid to participate. We will also offer a prize draw of $25 vouchers as a bonus incentive.
If you are a male aged between 18 to 35 and play Destiny 2 for 10 hours or more each week, we invite you to complete our survey. As I said, this survey will be completed on Prolific, a safe and reputable website that is used by >200,000 people paid to complete surveys. All participants will be compensated for their time on Prolific.
We first ask participants to complete an initial screening survey to confirm that they play Destiny 2, and they will then be contacted to receive a second (longer) survey that will ask about their gaming routines. The first survey will take less than 1 minute to complete which you will be paid a nominal rate, and the second survey will about 30 minutes to complete. You will be paid at the Prolific hourly rate to complete the second survey, and go in the prize draw.
No personal information (such as emails) will be collected as this will be handled by Prolific only. We are asking participants to provide their gamertags or usernames (which is not personally identifiable) so we may link their in-game activity to their survey responses and to observe general gaming patterns. Gamertags will NOT be shared, reported, or published. If you are not comfortable with sharing your gamertag, then please do not participate. To participate, you will need to join Prolific (https://prolific.co/). Registration will take a few minutes and will allow you to complete other surveys if you choose to do so.
This survey is approved by Flinders University’s Ethics Committee (number 4426). If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact me at smit1754@flinders.edu.au or my supervisor, Dr Daniel King, at daniel.king@flinders.edu.au.
Thank you so much for your time. We are aware of people’s hesitance to participate in surveys due to privacy and legitimacy concerns. However, please be reassured that all information will remain confidential, and will only be used for the purpose of the study.
