We played math and make believe for like 9 hours yesterday. Also I accidentally put pepper on french fries and I do not recommend it.
Picking up after last session, I told the party about my "sisters" threat on the way to the palace and we decided to check it out, and maybe kill them or beat info outta them. We arrived at the palace around sundown and Vos talked us in. He spoke with his mother, Dutchess Anastasia Blackwolf, within a suspiciously empty grand hall aside from us and her 3 guards.
There was a brief conversation about a plot to pit the king and her against each other and some assassination attempts, then Jonah shouted about assassins in the balcony above. Four arrows flew down, striking the guards dead, but Vos wrapped himself around his mother, taking the shot meant for her (which nearly brought him down), and carried her behind a column. Three of the assassins dropped down with red eyes, fangs, and one spinning his blades shouting "TRATOIR!" at me.
After a bit of fighting I ran up a column and did a Flurry of CRITs on the archer on the balcony cuz I'm awesome. Then they bit, shanked, and shoved me back down cuz I'm dumb. By that point the other assassins were dead and the archer started to flee, but Silver brought me back up and I used my 45' movement speed, a dash action, and Step of the Wind bonus action to Sanic after them.
After an anime chase scene wall running across the castle walls we landed on a rooftop and posed dramatically. Bob arrived a bit later using Misty Step and his Saytr legs to leap over and Silver popped out her angel wings to follow in the sky.
Then we killed it and went back lol. I checked and didn't know any of them. After that, lots of talking. First at the palace about how to proceed and then in the shitty apartment my old team wanted us to meet in.The old team being the other inductees from the orphanage:
- Olivia, Human Mean Girl, squad leader and "Face"
- Darak, Half Orc Archer and old friend I saved from the orphanage fire we totally didn't cause on accident
- Remmy, Halfling Snoop with some arcane tricks
Olivia was mad I brought the party and the other two ambushed me with hugs. I told them about her threat and they just shrugged saying, "Yeah what else is new?"
After a short standoff and some yelling with Jonah and Vos we learned that they don't know shit. The small squads don't know about each others jobs. We also learned they aren't fans of the old Masters and their political games. New bloods just want money and some of them are plotting a coup.
We also talked about bringing me back in as a spy, reporting what I learn on the Blackwolf family and Jonah's Fraternity and in return they'd give whatever Court intel they can dig up for us.
Jonah stormed out and I decided to talk to him, but overheard him using his Sending amulet to tell his bosses. He referred to me as "the asset" and asked permission to use me to get closer to the Court.
Nera is big sad everyone just wants to use her to get to more important people.
Now enough of that, onto job!
A Gnome gangster who's name I'm not gonna try spelling has info the Court doesn't want getting out. They've already infiltrated the staff and looked the place over. The info's locked away in a vault in the basement, but they can't pick the lock. They also don't have time to learn the combination.
They did find a weak wall in the basement connected to the sewers though, so our party is going in through there while they "work" for the gnome as he hosts a party upstairs. Crack the vault, loot it, and dispose of anything else we find. We added the "loot it" bit.
Passing through the sewers we talked past some Kobolds, snuck past a Troll, and pulled the Paladin out of a Gelatinous Cube, then we found the wall they'd marked and quietly smashed through. Pretty basic basement, storage and such. Found the hidden door and while I cracked the lock the others stacked stuff in front of the other doors.
Instead of a vault the hidden door lead to a workshop full of scrap metal, suits of armor, weapons, and in the center a very tall suit of armor full of shadows with red eyes. Then the DM pushed a button and the Pursuer theme from Dark Souls 2 started playing.
This thing tanky. Atleast 20 AC, immune to Force and Necrotic damage, also immune to Scorching Ray and Dispel Magic, and resistant to non magic weapons! During the fight Silver fired a 2nd lvl Guiding Bolt and crit it for BIG DAMAGE. Turns out it's weak to Radiant.
That pissed it off. It hovered and lunged across the room to her. Jonah has the Sentinel feat but even with Advantage he rolled below 5 twice, then it swung twice at Silver bringing her down. Bob, feeling useless, ran up and gave Silver one of my Discount Healing pots and it healed for 1d4 more than the standard, but also does Wild Magic! Silver is now 12 years old.
The fight went on and it crit Jonah bringing him down, but Silver healed him. As he rose he stabbed his sword into the armor with a crit and twisted the blade to pump a SMITE into the thing. The holy light chased away the darkness and the armor fell to the floor! And oh look it's +1 Plate Armor how neat!
In the workshop we didn't find much else. Schematics and materials for rune crafting, which we took, but we also noticed a bank vault door on the other side of the room with a far more complex lock. Bob and Silver rolled low on Arcana and said it looked clear, so I did my thing and rolled an 18 +12 for a total of 30 to pick the lock cuz I'm awesome. Ignore all the damage I didn't do last fight.
Also ignore the Alarm spells that just went off, alerting the Gnome upstairs and activating the other suits of armor in the workshop, they were shit and we took em down fast though. But the vault had more than loot inside. In the center of the room was a Dwarf, bloody and bound to a chair, and he was terrified of me.
Shouting he didn't tell them anything and begging for his life. We freed him and loot goblin'd the place real quick for a bunch of money and gems, a Bag of Holding, a Pearl of Power, a +1 Quarterstaff, and a magic pipe flute that summons rats, then we ran back to the sewers while guards pounded on the door.
We decided not to bring the Dwarf back to my old squad and took a different route out of the sewers, asking what he knew. He told us the address of the Courts main hideout in this city, the clock tower in the quarantined districts. As we returned to the surface an arrow struck him dead and tied to the shaft was a note for me:
This was a test and you failed. I owed you my life for pulling me out of the fire, so take yours and keep running.
And that's where we ended the session!
