The Bridge at Varaville
Hey flood i figured i would shine some light on a game you all have probably never heard of before.
Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy is a hard core strategy game where you command either side in well...the Battle for Normandy during World War 2.
What better way to show off the game than to tell you my soldiers experiences through screenshots and description!
I am playing as the Canadians this time around and we have just dropped into Normandy! I control an under strength platoon of paratroopers (Two squads and the platoon command team) with my objective to capture the manor house, and guard house and to hold the position until relieved.
Briefing- Canadian Airborne troops attempt to seize and hold the bridge at Varaville

Overall map- Objectives are worded in white and highlighted green on the terrain. Manor House and Guard house.

Manor house assault- Unfortunately the screenshots were lost in the interwebs so no pictures, but i can tell you it went off without a hitch and knocked out a German command team of 2 with zero casualties of my own!
Guard House assault-

CONTACT! Hit the deck boys!
Second section runs into an mp40 toting German!
Second section bounds over the bridge to assault the guard house under friendly cover!
The Assault is well underway with German resistance pinned!
This German has the right idea...
His other buddy got shot down in the field so hes a little shaken...
The guard house is secured!
With the guard house captured the Canadians dig in and wait for the inevitable counter attack...
Debrief-
With all objectives captured the Canadian paratroopers have succeeded in there mission, shortly after the engagement engineers arrive to destroy the bridge, denying the Germans one of many bridges to the Normandy coast.
* The German counter attack failed to materialize!*
I hope you guys enjoyed reading it as much as i enjoyed creating it. These battles can be massive, i just chose this small one as a sample to see if you guys are interested in it. Feel free to ask any questions and to discuss the battle! Next time we will take command of an under strength German grenadier platoon and one panther tank (Commanded by Ernst Barkmann) attempting to hold a cross roads that would soon become known only as...Barkmanns corner!
*disclaimer* This battle did really happen at Varaville and played out largely the same as it happened in the game!
