Ok so me and my friend started to play 3 days ago, we're both free-to-play users so far. I got a bit ahead of him all the way up to where I got 1260 (nothing more, nothing less) power level items dropped as rewards from quests or just randomly out there. I thought this was some sort of a power cap for f2p players idk. I would've left it there and stopped playing until I could afford more content, the thing is that my friend reached my milestone and even went further, he was getting items normally, like we had been doing so far up until now. We've done the same quests, pretty much met all the basic-requirements bla bla bla. I've tried everything: Strikes, Crucible, Bounties, Quests, Engrams, Nightfall, etc. Is this a bug? Am I doing something wrong? Is it something simple but I'm dumb and haven't noticed? Please if someone can help me out, I'd be forever in debt. I really like this game and don't wanna quit bcuz of not being able to move forward.

So, there are a few soft caps before he hard cap of 1320 Light. When you hit those soft caps, you can only progress in specific ways instead of any random world drop. The first soft cap is 1260. From there on, only Powerful or Pinnacle Drops give higher Power Gear. There are a lot of ways to obtain Powerful Gear, like weekly milestones, challenges from various NPCs, Powerful Engrams, and more. Many of the sources can be seen in the Director (the star map), and they are marked with a yellow star symbol and an explanation. The second soft cap is 1310. From there on, only Pinnacle Drops progress you. Pinnacle Drops are marked in the Director as well, however many of the sources for Pinnacle Gear are Pinnacle Activities which are tougher, like Raids.
