Trials is not for casuals in any capacity

Trials is flooded with top tier players(streamers, recovs, 24/7 grinders) and it feels like that’s the only player base . If you are 1.3kd or below you have almost 0 chance to go flawless. The casuals jump off the map now they don’t even try no more. Some are incentivized to pay real life money to pay recovs because the playlist is so hard. I think it’s real crazy that I can match a team with players who have been flawless 334 times on game 2. Casuals also have no incentive to play long term past endgame bounties. Tokens are too scarce for them, a lot of them can’t get past game 3 and the rewards at the bottom of the card are too little to warrant going in for a second try. Card based matchmaking is a joke. Pushes casuals out and leaves top tiers to all the loot.

For the people who say "ITS NOT FOR CASUALS GIT GUD!" you have to realize that if you abandon casual players the playlist dies, plain and simple. Why was trials so good in D1? Because sooooo many people played it. Any slightly above average player could go flawless with some luck and good teamwork because the whole playerbase was playing every weekend so 90% of your games were against other average players. In d2, there is truly no reason to step foot in the playlist if you cant go flawless, so every game is against stacked sweat teams, service streamers, recovs, people who use meta, or cheaters. Not often do you match people who are truly average at the game and are a free win because people like that just have no reason to play. If trials is ever going to improve it needs to have more appeal to casuals in order to populate the playlist more and make the matchmaking more reasonable, which makes the experience better for everyone. It is a self fulfilling prophecy. The more people who play, the better the matchmaking is and the more fun the mode is.

    • I am a casual trials player and sort of enjoy it even with the stomps. The loot is great just for hanging in there and you learn alot about the map of the week which helps in quickplay. And win or lose you can eventually get a full set of trials armor and every trials weapon (non adept, of course) of the season if you play consistently. Flawless and adept weaoons are reserved for streamers, cheaters, recovery acounts, and sweats. I am happy not to be in any of those categories but to still be able to get the loot.

      • This is just my opinion but Trials and its loot is for everyone. Lighthouse is for the top players. Unfortunately, Bungie has screwed up both of these by having players who can’t reach the Lighthouse only get loot through win milestones and bounties and Flawless players getting the absolute shaft on stingy loot.

        • Imagine playing a top 10 team (~4000 elo) multiple times during your passage, this makes flawless 100% impossible unless you stop playing or find a fireteam leader on the opposite side of the world.

        • They need to make a playlist for those who have gone flawless for the week already. Matching up against people with 600+ flawless runs consistently is getting ridiculous. The whole playlist needs a rework. Shits insanely ridiculous right now.

Everyone on here will tell you that’s the point. Trials is only for the best. But then they stack and beat up on bad teams Tell me honestly, how many times do the “best” players actually go up against each other in trials?

              • Destiny is a terrible game. It's only reward has ever been-being in the beautiful world ,that the wonderful Bungie artists created. But what you have to do with that time, and how much of it you have to spend- is a problem. Destiny is unrewarding. There has always been a content problem. Bounties are a poor replacement for content. Grind is a horrendous replacement for content. Catalyst-fetch! Pvp is a joke in destiny. It's bad. Trials has always been a joke and I am tickled pink to watch it's inevitable evolution. Real time disaster horror. PvE isn't really any different. Just another way some player who grinded-out 500 levels of a season pass can let you know... You are not good enough to play with them. From day 1 Bungie has fostered a dysfunctional environment inside their game. They've done nothing with clans. Nothing for Lfg. They can only retain the worst type of gamer; me, me, me's. I haven't been able to recommend destiny since D2 launched! Don't get me started... Re-newed focus

And yet to do seasonal challenges we have to do trials. So that's on Bungie. Not that I'll be playing trials myself. But imagine not being good at pvp but wanting to get that challenge completed.

                  • In order for talent streamers (as opposed to tutorial streamers and personalities/content creators) to wow their audiences they need to excel at an activity that most others can’t. As long as Bungie thinks they are the keys to the kingdom this will continue. The carry and recovery industry makes trials seem more viable than it is. If Bungie dug deep investigatively they would find that most flawless runs are recovs. I knew a guy in D1 that did recovs and he said he was booked solid every weekend. He estimated he did about 25-30 runs for clients a weekend and assumed others did more. The notion of having a high level activity for high level players is cool but it should really be a ranked system like Call of Duty league or something similar. Imagine if MMA worked like trials. I.E. Dustin Poirer vs. the fat bouncer from your local nightclub. The flawless should be earned, but everyone should be able to string two-three wins together now and then.

                  • Iv said this so many times and with bungie it’s not worth ever holding your breath but placing people who have been flawless that week into separate matchmaking would solve so many problems. It wouldn’t change what your saying but the jumping off the map being so prevalent should be a wake up call. Everyone I used to play trials with quit mostly over recovs and teams farming their stats. Bungie shut down trials when people were win trading but never asked themselves why so many people were doing that.

                    • We’re all watching what happen when a pyramid scheme fails. There’s not enough casual players for the mid to top tier players to get rich on. Now the mode is rotting from the inside out. This predatory mess is finally exposing itself for what it is.

                      • As one content creator put it (perfectly): Bungie has a tendency to focus on the kind of player that a playlist is designed for, but then forget about the players that the playlist NEEDS to survive. Trials is designed fir the top-tier player, but it needs the casual player for the game mode to work. All of the problems you mention are rooted in the fact that you have loot locked behind a skill wall that average players have no hope to get over, and no doors or Windows to get through. So honest players have little reason to show up and play other than to be fodder for someone’s montage…, …and others have n reason to say “No” to account recoveries and cheating. At least it seems Bungie is starting to wake up to this.

                        • Trials is the cancer of destiny, and the game would be better off without it, all it serves for is a breeding ground for cheaters and balance breaking because trials players take the meta to the limit which in turn brings all the complaints and screams for "nerf".

Not just Trials, there are in effect no casual feeling PvP modes in the game. Comp/elim are the only skill based modes and they are not fun game modes. The Quickplay modes are all without exception, without any SBMM. If Bungie wants a balance of connection priority and actual matchmaking then currently there are no casual experiences available. Skill tiers are of course coming for Trials and then potentially for IB - but the wording was very ambiguous, Bungie-speak, on the latter.

Remember when they said that they didn't wnat to bring Trials of the Nine back, but then brought back Trials of Osiris instead? Lmao look how that turned out. Maybe the playlist would be more inviting if it had a separate trials card, that didn't allow you to reach the lighthouse, but allowed unlimited losses and up to 6 wins for rewards before resetting. That way casuals can play it and gain rewards without having to be totally high stakes and the sweats can still use their flawless cards to get to the lighthouse and get adept gear.

                              • The easiest fix would be to make it so that once a player goes flawless (or 7 wins) for that weekend they go into a separate match making pool of other flawless players. Also it needs to be more rewarding, I mean 2 tokens for a match win isnt very good. Match completion should award tokens based of round wins and match completions should have a small chance of dropping older trials gear, with wins offering higher odds

                                • Bungie has stated Many times that trials is for the endgame pvp players who want a challange. What part of that says casual friendly ? 90% of the game is for those players. I played trials last last week and was only beaten by players who had better team play than my team it's not as hardcore as yall -blam!- about

                                • Should be a point system like valor or glory. Just for weekend and resets, certain level gets you to light house or 7 wins in a row. Plus after match drops and tokens. Would allow players to get there through attrition and would also allow them to get gud while receiving rewards. Nobody is increasing there skill if they aren’t getting a reward for it. Would also take the sting out of getting beat all the time. Just thoughts from a perpetual 3-4 win card player.
