I have noticed an increase in the number of AFK farmers in the game, especially in Override. You have folks just standing in the spawn area or a quiet section of the map, and not contribute at all. This has occurred in two out of my last five runs of the mission this weekend.
They fire their primary weapon into empty space, reload or move side-to-side every now and then. They only become active at the end of the final boss battle, in order to collect spoils from the chests.
Surely an improved detection system could be implemented? If a player is not moving a great distance, not contributing to the kill count or not bothering to pick up/deposit motes, then they should get booted after 2-3 minutes of an idle state.
These AFK farmers are using macros and cheat suites in order to fool the system - they can just sit back and everyone else in the team does all of the hard work and heavy lifting. When you have 1-2 players doing nothing, it slows down progress and lengthens the duration of the Override activity, and it ends up becoming even more of a tedious grind.
Playlist strikes have also been affected, and this has been more of a long term problem - the farmers warp out into the middle of nowhere or kill themselves and hang around in respawn limbo. Again they magically appear when the end boss is defeated, and collect loot.
Altars of Sorrow also shares a similar issue, and it is frustrating when you lose progress due to inactive players filling up space, and not allowing genuinely active players to join in on the event.

Funny. When I go afk due to family emergencies like my dog trying to eat something he shouldn't the game boots me faster then I could get back.
-
Ive noticed an up tick myself in the override activity, its not as bad as forges were though.

Edited by Southern4x4: 6/29/2021 2:21:58 PMThis should be an easy fix and should've been shut dowm with the armories. The fact that it hasn't reeks of laziness and/or ineptitude.

Only places I see AFK is gambit. Can be annoying simply because I don't enjoy gambit and try rush it so its over quicker. In strikes and override there's a few times people don't move at first but I just assume they nipped toilet or something whilst loading because people normally start moving after a minute or so.

Edited by Slevi: 6/28/2021 3:53:15 PMThis community asked for hordemodes. Are you not entertained! In all seriousmess, AFK players have been an issue since year 1. Its hard to differentiate a player taking a small pee break to someone who occasionally moves the controller. Modes like override are very easy to for 4 people to carry. I too find myself taking the lazy route with an autorifle and just walking around. The game mode is so brain dead.

The event is super easy. I get pissed when everyone does take part. It makes killing crap so much harder when competing for kills.

bro ? Just let them afk farm. Go do some strikes or something. Try some gambit
-
“Can detection systems be improved?” If they could/wanted, it would’ve happened when AFK Forge Farming was a thing. Best they were able to do was make people go to Orbit after and re-queue manually (roughly equivalent to know since you have to re-queue any activity).
-
Can't you just boot them? It seem to work i nightfalls!

Interesting, from my pov, every afk person in override and strikes is a blessing. Due to the Bounty structure, which is extremely inconvenient, combined with the low enemy density, it always feels like a battle for kills, which is extremely unfun. Bungies dated bounty system which doesn't progress from everything the whole fireteam does, but only counts YOUR own kills, makes it so these activities feel like a chore even more. So you should be happy about afk's. And also, strikes and override are extremely, extremely easy and there should ultimately be a solo option because of that. So i don't really understand your concern. Afk's in pvp comp mode and gambit are a whole different story tho, those people should be detected and suspended more efficiently.
-
How do you afk those activities? I'd rather do that while playing my Switch. Most of the PvE in D2 bores me to tears.
-
I'll be honest with you boy, cheats are increasing in number, if you remove that population you remove a large chunk of players, destiny 2 is basically a meme
-
No one likes running mediocre activities for a chance at a bad weapon with bad rolls 3x per character
-
I very rarely see this on PC or Xbox. I don’t play on PS or Stadia very often, so I can’t comment on those platforms. Even when I do see it, it generally isn’t a problem (unless it’s the Corrupted strike, ‘cause I suck at that one) . It just means I’ll have greater success completing my bounties.

the only one with problems are altars, but all other activity are easy even on solo
-
I rarly see Afk. This is not widespread IMO

Edited by THA_3rd_GUY: 6/27/2021 1:14:41 PMYou know, there's a system in Left 4 Dead that I really like, but I've never seen in any other game. At any point during a game in L4D, any player can vote to kick a player from an activity. If enough players vote yes, that player is kicked from the activity after a second or two. In PvP, only the player's team is allowed to vote. While this could create new problems altogether, it could help a lot if done right.

The automatic kick usually kicks them faster when they are ghosted. Or you can do what I do with some people... Fail. Intentionally wait it out
...they can just sit back and everyone else in the team does all of the hard work
None of the activities you listed involve “hard work.”
-
Its not like you need the help in override, I actually get happy when people are afk because than I would actually get a kill, than just watch people take all my kills.
-
That would be great. I get people needing to get a drink, go to the toilet, pick up a call, but then there are others that just sit there and move every minute or so so they don’t get kicked back to orbit, they are the ones that are ruining the experience for others.
-
Report and move on, thats all you can do. Yes its obnoxious, but Bungie have got bigger issues on PC right now tbh.

Edited by SirToastaLot: 6/26/2021 11:13:08 PMWow, show me a player who can solo complete Altars of Sorrow. I really need to improve how I play the game in order to achieve the almost impossible. Yes, the game can be a grind in certain ways, but AFK farming is just selfish. As noted in my original post - the main issue lies with these problems causing the activities to last even longer for everyone else who are playing in a genuine manner. I forgot to mention that these farmers tend to have very high season pass levels (350+), so it seems that they have figured out that Override is ripe for exploiting.
-
It really doesn't matter. In fact, you should be happy as it's less people to fight against to get bounties done...
