A little rant, mind dump and off the cuff: I may be showing my age, but I remember vividly convincing my friends to buy an Xbox since this game was coming out that looked amazing, Halo CE. We used to play Golden Eye and Perfect Dark non-stop for many years and Halo looked promising. Being one of the best PVP and PVE players of my friends group and always being put on the team with the bad players or uneven team, we still had fun because it was always engaging and had us coming back for more.
There are many other FPS titles that we played along the way but nothing was like Halo PVP and how fluid the guns felt and the experiences we had with Capture the Flag and Team Death Matches.
Fast forward a few more years, and similar experience that we had with Halo CE came around from a little game called Destiny. It provided years of experiences as well with a unique feel due to bringing PVE into PVP and into what we have now with Destiny 2.
Being a developer myself and being in the Advertising Industry/Robotics Industry for years, I know all about turn over and talent shifting around. In addition, I know all too well about shifting focus and objectives for a projects that you've worked on for years.
I know there's been a lot of talk in the community about this isn't much of a PVP focused game anymore and PVP elites need to move onto different games to get their fix they want, but being in my later 30's I can say at least for myself I haven't found another game that has the "feel" that Destiny has, and even the latest in the Halo series has lost it's footing with the gun play. I feel like Destiny and other FPS's has pushed more for flash and awe instead of gun play skill.
Hell, I remember heading to college Halo tournaments and wiping the floor of people for extra cash. Also running scrims with high profile players at the time such as Ogre 1 & 2, Walshy, others from Str8 Rippin and Final Boss and many others over the years to follow.
We enjoyed Halo not just because it was the game of the day but there was a lot more focus towards PVP maps and money being pumped into them since MLG was huge then and a lot of eyes were on PVP.
I know what goes into making a game from the drawling board to shipping the game to consumers, however I feel an actual renewed focus on PVP would be very refreshing for PVPers of old and those that seem to enjoy this current flash and awe nowadays.
I don't know if will ever get back to the point of what Bungie PVP once was since much of those teams have most likely been shuffled out or had renewed focus, but my friends and I have been through the good, the bad and the ugly with Bungie. Much of friends have moved on, and some have straight up refused to play PVP due to what it has become. Some of that has also come life experiences such as getting married and having kids but we all still have been dedicated Bungie fans since it has a special place for all of us.
Don't get me wrong most of my friends enjoy the PVE content but for us the END GAME has always been putting skills into PVP or just having fun playing as a group and seeing if our team was better than the other while not sweating and just having fun. I know Bungie has been working hard at balancing the hell at the current state of Destiny PVP, but with the lack of new maps, ability spam and lack of solid game play it's hard to convivence some of my now (transferred to) PVE friends to play any PVP due to the current state that has been around for a while now.
Lastly, I'm beating a dead horse here, but since Bungie has moved to Free to Play it's honestly been the worst PVP gaming experience I think we all have had in a long time. The massive amount of cheaters on PC has far outweighed the care to even play the game. My team can beat most cheaters in Trials but we don't even care to even play the game type since you don't know if you're going to play anyone legit anymore. Even the non-competitive game play has gotten so terrible as of late because there is zero incentive to play competitive. So people that are good/or half decent at the game go into casual play lists and play like it's an MLG tournament which push out any new player or less skilled players that has turned all of Destiny PVP into a non-stop shit show.
Don't get me wrong, myself, I still love PVP mainly for the out thinking of other players that you can't get else where. However, once everyone is on that same field of play it gets repetitive and boring. That's why I think CTF in Halo was so great because even if you had friend that wasn't that good, they could go after the flag and you could cover them. The amount of crazy plays that came out of that was amazing and it added so much more dynamic gameplay over what we have currently in the Destiny sandbox.
All I'm saying is it would be nice to have Bungie go back to some of their roots of solid new maps, game types, leaderboards/ranks similar to Halo 2 and over all fun gun play that has been missing for quite some time now. AKA hire folks that understand PVP and the needs that come into making great map design and game types.
Old man rant over.

Who knows when it comes to the ranks but everything else appears to be in the cards. I also played Halo a lot and would like to return to a similar PvP atmosphere. Minus the idiots screaming into their mics.
