I understand why next-Gen and past-Gen consoles are mostly separated during matchmaking (specifically with crucible). However, due to console scarcity, this negatively affects next-gen console users with slow matchmaking and very small player populations.
With the news coming out showing that the Ps5 shortage is likely to continue into 2022, Bungie should address this instead of leaving their next Gen customers stuck with longer wait times and badly balanced or repetitive matches.
I don't know what the best solution is, but leaving it as it is would definitely *not* be the best solution.

I have a PS5 and experience the same matchmaking issues you are having. Every next gen player does, whether they realize it or not. It is most evident in Trials and Survival. My team and I played the same team in Survival three times in a row just a few days ago. We were fine with it because we easily beat them all three times, but I do feel bad for that other team. I've been on the other side of that quite a few times too. It sucks. The only thing I can say is I expect the issue to resolve itself somewhat once crossplay is enabled. If there's still a new gen/old gen separation, it will still at least mean that PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players will see each other added to their matchmaking pools, making this a less common scenario. I don't like that they split it to begin with, but there is at least a chance that it improves at that point.
