Dude you’re crazy, every dismounted patrol I ever did in my 15 years always involved me slidshotting. Slideshotting is a tactic that we Marines train in. The ability to scare your enemy as you charge fearlessly straight at them only to quickly slide, distracting them, and shoot them whilst mid slide with a shotgun, is not something joked about on the battlefield. Not sure about the Army, because you said x soldier, but in the Marines the standard issue for E5 and below is a shotgun and a Revolver. SNCOs and Os get a buckshot 3 round burst shotgun, or bastions as they call them. Not sure what game you’re playing, but destiny seems as if it was literally made from my combat experiences, clearly.

  • I was 3PPCLI, Canadian Army, in the early 80s. We were training to fight the Warsaw Pact nations if they staged a large-scale invasion across Poland and (at the time) West Germany. My training didn't emphasize close-in urban warfare, but what we got was the standard room clearing techniques of using grenades or flashbangs, and then watching your corners, etc. No sliding like you described. Interesting approach if the Marines actually use that, but I doubt the Department of National Defence in Canada would ever approve anything like that. Now on the other hand, they do like good snipers. Two of the top 5 longest sniper kills in history were made by 3PPCLI snipers in Afghanistan. But as I said, I think about these sorts of real-world military considerations sometimes when I play Destiny and laugh about it at times.

  • I was kidding, at no point during my military career did I perform any “slide shots”. I’ve seen Canadian military on TV and such but never actually seen you guys. I’ve trained with Croatians, Latvians, Afghans, Romanians, Brits, and many more I just can’t remember, but never actually seen you guys in real life. I know for a while one of your snipers held the longest shot for a while, but I think some one beat it.

  • I thought you were, but then I thought you might be referring to when you breach a room in very specific circumstances. It did seem weird to me because it would probably get you killed, especially considering the old advice that if possible you never want to be the first one through the door in situations like that. That's one reason I've admired a force like the US Marines. In battle, essentially they are always the first ones to fight, the first ones through the door, doing pretty much the toughest assignment there is. Not everyone is cut out for that. Me, I just trained to jump out of airplanes and easy things like that ;) By the way, the longest shot ever was by a Canadian sniper in our equivalent of Delta Force, JTF2. I still can't believe anyone could make a shot like that even though I was in the army. I had trouble hitting anything more 300 meters out on a good day, never mind in windy or stormy weather or hazy environments.

Yea the shot was over a mile long. When snipers shoot that far that actually have the incorporate the spin of the earth into the shot. Shits crazy, my buddy is a scout sniper and about the craziest thing they can do is “loop hole shooting”, it’s where they’ll sit back like 15 feet or so from a small hole in the wall, like silver dollar size, and are able to engage targets through the damn hole in the wall, insane. I’d rather run convoys nonstop than jump out of a plane, I’ll pass on that shit. Also -blam!- being first in the stack, not a fun spot.
