All the Guardians we have seen so far, appear to have died before they were selected by their Ghost to become Guardians. Is this a prerequisite, so simply because the Ghosts take so long to find "the one"?

I tried making a post about how Amanda could possibly be a guardian if she died but the way I worded got me a ban warning lol 😂

Hmmmm, It is possible. Shin Malphur never died but was blessed by the traveler to have powers which is weird.

most yes some chosen no

.... Yes. That's like... Incredibly basic knowledge Did you not think there was a reason why all Guardian's were previously dead... Not at all?

Edited by R Y U K E R リューカー: 3/24/2021 5:31:03 PMAs far as I’m aware, the only exception was Shin Malphur. His ghost also previously belonged to Jaren Ward. Making both he and his ghost an anomaly.

I mean if you hadn't died before you became a guardian its almost a certainty you will have since becoming one 😂

Shin Malphur didn't die

Edited by Emurinus: 3/24/2021 3:42:08 PMTo become a Guardian, the only real known prerequisite is that you need to fight in the name of the Last City; that's why many pre-city Lightbearers such as Drifter are not referred to as Guardians (either by choice or circumstance). There's a fuzzy case with Hawthorne though. She was called a Guardian by Zavala in the Red War campaign, and her group was allowed to participate in last year's Guardian Games by representing Titans, so being a Lightbearer doesn't seem mandatory at least as of recently. For the sake of simplicity though, Guardians are often classified as Lightbearers who fight for the Last City of humanity. To be a Lightbearer in general heavily implies that the user must be deceased first, with maybe the cause of death having an influence. The only known exception of a non-revived Guardian is Shin Malphur, but the validity of that could be challenged since there has never been another known case.

I could be wrong here but I don’t think Shin Malphur ever died. But looking back now, maybe he did as a child and got a ghost later - anyway he’s kind of the anomaly
