Hello Bungie,
Please consider my suggestion that the muzzle flash/flare when firing The Forward Path should be tuned.
Aesthetically, as it stands, the flash from each bullet is annoying - it obscures a large portion of the sights with multiple scopes and renders them less effective (particularly on console since the reticle also moves). The flashes also reset the optic acquisition of targets onscreen causing discomfort. More trivially, the weapon model seems to have a suppressor fitted, which doesn’t really fit with the fact that there is such intense flash but perhaps this is a design choice that you employ since it’s present on other weapons that share this model (e.g. Horror Story).
However, more troubling is the health impact when playing. The constant flash creates a small strobe lighting effect that could cause epilepsy and most definitely causes rapid eye strain. Myself and others have gotten headaches and eye irritation from specifically using this weapon for more than a few crucible matches consecutively. I have worn blue light glasses to see if this would mitigate the effect, played in even more well-lot rooms but to no avail. The muzzle flash is too strong and obtrusive.
It appears that the muzzle flash obscures certain scopes more than others. I tested this with all the scopes across multiple rolls of the weapons. The short zoom/IS scopes that are parallel to the muzzle have the most pronounced effect. The long zoom rifle scopes are mounted slightly higher up and therefore the flash does not impact these as much (it is very much still an annoyance and irritant though). Higher RoF weapons such as SMGs do not suffer from this as much as you’d expect since the sights are away from the actually muzzle. Even other 600 autos such as the SUROS Regime escape this by having the sights away from the muzzle. This leads me conclude that this issue is specific to this weapon model and can be individually fixed.
Eye strain and health needs to be taken very seriously and the game should not make active decisions to worsen health if they can be rectified with a straightforward fix. Muzzle flash has been reduced in the past, most notably Arc Logic and Traveler’s Chosen. Allowing it to persist on this weapon (both original and season 11 reissue), which still drops from the Iron Banner loot pool, is detrimental to both in game experience as well as eye health. I have seen people argue that the flash was ‘balanced’ given the strength of 600 RPM auto rifles during the season 10-11 sandbox but given that this is no longer the case, I do not see a reason why this cannot be reduced on this weapon.
Thank you!
