As Rogue followed the cat through the streets of Antry, he had a growing suspicion that the cat had no idea where it was going.
"Oh, I know exactly what I'm doing, thank you very much." The cat said. Rogue fell backwards.
"You speak?" He exclaimed.
The cat looked offended. "Of course I do! Why wouldn't I?"
"Normally," Rogue said, "Cats don't speak." The cat didn't respond, and instead turned around and headed into an alleyway. Rogue stood up and looked around him.
"Chop chop!" The cat's voice echoed from the alleyway. Rogue ignored it and started walking. The cat appeared in front of him. The passersby didn't seem to notice the strange sight.
"What do you think you're doing?" The cat asked.
"Leaving." Rogue snapped as he walked past the cat.
"Look, I know it's a lot to take in-"
"Whatever happened today, I don't want any part of it. I am not becoming part of a war between paracausal beings." Rogue said.
"Gods, actually." The cat corrected.
"That's even worse!"
"It doesn't matter if you leave. He will find you. And when he does, he'll kill you."
"Look, thank you for taking me to safety-"
"Hush." The cat snapped. He looked alarmed. Rogue was about to snap at him when he noticed.
"There's no one here." Rogue muttered. No one could be seen save for Rogue and the cat.
"It's him. We have to leave. Now." The cat said urgently. It rushed into the alley, and this time, Rogue followed. He caught up to the cat at a dead end.
"What now?" Rogue asked.
"I need you to make a portal." The cat said.
"You're asking me to use magic?" Rogue exclaimed.
"Yes." The cat said calmly. "It's rather simple." The ground rumbled, and a familiar, ominous voice laughed.
"What do I do?" Rogue asked urgently.
"Concentrate. Imagine a portal in front of you. I can take care of the destination, just get us a portal." The cat instructed. Rogue visualized a swirling blue vortex appearing in front of him. The ground rumbled again.
"You won't escape me that easily!" The voice boomed. The air grew hotter.
"Hurry!" The cat exclaimed.
"I'm doing my best!" Rogue responded. He glanced behind him to see a wall of fire moving towards them. He turned back to the dead end. A small portal appeared.
"Enlarge it!" The cat yelled. "Quickly!" Rogue looked behind him again to see the wall of fire mere feet away.
"Prepare to die!" The voice cackled. There was a loud whirling noise.
"It's open! Let's go!" The cat yelled. Rogue turned to see the cat jump through the portal, which was already closing. He glanced behind him at the fire, which was now right behind him, and jumped through the portal.
