SMG’s were a brand new weapon type added into the Destiny Universe, but they have never gotten the attention that Hand cannons, shotguns, and sidearms have been given.
In PvP, I am trying to test new builds cause sun-setting has had ridiculous consequences to build diversity, and I also like to experiment with new things within the Crucible. This month we have been given the chance to obtain Cold Front, an aggressive frame Submachine Gun. This gun, is absolutely garbage. This gun is terrible and comes with horrendous perks that are just insulting to our time for grinding out these Dawning gift packages. Easily, the machine gun is worth it, only cause it’s like the only other one within the game, and the fusion rifle is worth is because it’s just so damn good.
The SMG? Zero stability, no range, terrible TTK, and crappy mag size. Literally, I need to supplement the awful stability with a counter balance mod, but it comes to my own detriment because I can’t extend the mag with backup mag. The TTK is so awful that I have to mag dump into players just to kill them! ONE MAG, ONE KILL! It’s a joke! And this is the same across all the available SMG’s. It makes sense that shotguns can do the damage they do because of the risk to reward if you can even call it that, I find shotguns infinitely times easier to use than an SMG. The sidearm relies heavily on an itchy trigger finger, and depending on the sidearm you can easily out spray any opponent close to you.
SMG’s, need a top to bottom buff. Seriously, this is ridiculous that for such a small little gun the kick back is so terrible. Boost stability, mag size and TTK at least! I want the crucible to evolve to such a state where everything is viable, and I see SMG’s severely underrepresented, if represented at all within the crucible.

Nerf Shotguns

SMGs are fine. I dropped 48 defeats the other day using double SMGs. Ikelos SMGs with tap the trigger & dynamic sway. Friction fire with threat detector rampage. EZ
-
smgs need a stability buff on console as well
-
Let's be honest, the only SMGs ever used were Recluse for literally everything, Riskrunner for when every enemy was arc, and that's about it. Sidearms are better in every way and for PvP literally no one uses SMGs
-
I agree with everything but the ttk. The ttk is great. The problem is a really good rolled smg might make it 15-16 meters while more than likely u will be closer to reliably 13-14. And the recoil and aim assist just doesn’t work in the short space. Combined that with the amount of cover in this game and shot guns reaching 7-9 meters. And fusions requiring only body shots up to 18 meters and a vast majority of side arms having better or similar ttks with far greater ease of use. SMGs have way to small of mags requiring reload after every kill, they are just shit weapons. Either extend the range (20ish meters before damage fall off) and mag size while reducing recoil. Or significantly drop the body ttk similar to the 2 burst side arms. Somewhere around .8-.9 seconds. And increase in air accuracy.
-
Friction Fire is lit right now (pun intended) even on console it is nasty with recoil control and Zen 💪🏼💪🏼
-
If SMGs get a buff, then so should side arms.
-
Distinguishing between pc and console, and pve vs pvp is important to a productive discussion. Supposedly smgs are quite good in pvp on pc. Which I totally believe due to the lack of recoil.
-
I don't know if you can use Cold Front as the sole example to say that all SMGs are bad. Even then, Cold Front is only bad on Console/Controller.
-
They never will. Streamers want a handcannon shotgun meta like old days to i guess look cool? as it requires no damn skill to play so nothing will ever trump those 2 anymore. If your not a streamer with 100k viewers you do not matter in this game anymore!

Someone missed Recluse also Huckleberry dude.
-
Edited by mannequin: 12/30/2020 8:16:50 PMFarm for a good roll Friction Fire and pair it up with peacekeepers. Sub target mod and decent mobility. If u really wanna go balls to the wall use stasis for the slide to be super aggressive. It pairs well with a sniper or scout/ dad rifle This is for console of course where smgs suffer from severe kick. And peacekeepers really help it out.
-
Idk, but, on the new series x and FoV @ 105 my Ikelos SMG is like a laser beam now.
-
Yes. I'm using the Double SMG Strat in Crucible with Peace Keepers, and it's not like it was back in S5. It's good, I got a message and the player said" You kicked my @$$ with 2 SMG's, Niceee" But, it's just lacking. There's only 2 900's, there will never be another Hero's Burden. 😔 Most Stable SMG ever. SMG's need a Stability Buff, and a Slight Damage Buff.
-
SMGs need a faster ttk and reduced recoil.
-
Did you miss the entire Recluse meta?
-
They should just give SMG an intrinsic hip fire buff
-
They could use a slight damage buff but most importantly, a stability buff on console. There are only a few that are actually usable. Namely the Ikelos SMG and Friction Fire.
-
They need an accuracy buff also sidearms. Huckleberry is insane but everyone crutches on Felwinters and at 20m the guns bullets just disappear.
-
On pc the smg is one of the best pve guns in the game. One for all with that reload for kills perk is actually insane. Ehroar did a good video on it. Why it’s stability is as bad as it is makes no sense to me. How the -blam!- are console players expected to use that
-
If they made side arms use special ammo like they did in D1 smgs would have less competition in the primary department PvP-wise. Side arms feel like they destroy these things
-
Depends on the seasonal exotic
-
If you have Beyond Light get a Biting Wind Combat Bow with the Swasbuckler perk it's a 1 headshot kill at 202 damage with the perk in the Crucible as soon as you get a stack 👌
-
Edited by TD1380: 12/30/2020 6:18:20 PMI still actually use my Ikelos SMG a lot and sometimes Friction Fire. Not terrible, but I do generally use backup mag on all my ARs and SMGs.
-
Ah yes the SMG: A weaker version of an AR, with way less range and way more recoil. Bungie logic at its finest.
-
Bungie clearly tunes gun feel on pc, then let’s the chips fall where they may for console.
