It’s very unsatisfying to have to turn in a bunch of tokens just to rank up a few times, with no control over what reward you get and most recently, having that reward drop 20 levels below.
As Banshee is the only tower vendor with exclusively Weapon drops, he’s really the only one worth grinding/ranking up for, as getting legendary armor from vendors is practically worthless now.
Faction rank-ups should work on an XP system, similar to how they did in D1, ranking up in the background without you having to turn in tokens. You’d be able to collect your waiting rewards later.
Tokens’ purpose could be changed, and they could then be used as a currency to buy rotating selections of specific rolled armor and weapons with the armor having a chance to have a higher stat one day than the other (similar to Xur’s inventory).
If you were unhappy with the day’s selection, you could also have the option to spend your tokens on a consumable that would provide a free rank-up, like how tokens are used to rank-up now.
The reward for each rank-up would change too, allowing you to choose whether it be armor or weapons, and perhaps either through normal play or with seasonal ranks you could progressively upgrade the level of your first rank-up reward for the week (Powerful Tier 1, 2, 3, then Pinnacle) and further narrow down which type of reward it is (Energy Weapon or Chest Armor, for example) thus allowing vendors to aid in Power Leveling once again though without the tediousness and monotony prior to Beyond Light.
That’s just me spitballing however. My true request is that this issue is just looked at.

The only problem I foresee with rank up packages, when compared to tokens, is that there will likely be a limit to how many packages can be saved up, similar to the postmaster. Tokens only use a single slot in the inventory and it’s an inventory that, at this point, can’t really fill up. Due to content vaulting, there just aren’t enough items afaik for inventory space to be a concern here. I do agree that the rank ups are very much insignificant and should be jazzed up, more similarly to d1 and early seasons of d2... but better. Each rank used to be numbered, and gaining ranks would unlock the ability to use tokens to buy certain things. In this case, I think that by using crucible and vanguard rank up tokens, you should unlock universal ornaments of the previous season’s armor, as well as the option to trade more tokens for a random roll on a specific weapon or armor from that activity’s current loot pool. One ornament, weapon, or armor would become available at certain ranks (example, every 10 ranks unlocks the ability to buy with tokens a different ornament or weapon, no knockout lists). This way, you can zero in on what you want, but only after putting in the work. Sadly, each season would then need a new token set, and existing tokens would need to be deprecated on a seasonal basis.
