It’s very unsatisfying to have to turn in a bunch of tokens just to rank up a few times, with no control over what reward you get and most recently, having that reward drop 20 levels below.
As Banshee is the only tower vendor with exclusively Weapon drops, he’s really the only one worth grinding/ranking up for, as getting legendary armor from vendors is practically worthless now.
Faction rank-ups should work on an XP system, similar to how they did in D1, ranking up in the background without you having to turn in tokens. You’d be able to collect your waiting rewards later.
Tokens’ purpose could be changed, and they could then be used as a currency to buy rotating selections of specific rolled armor and weapons with the armor having a chance to have a higher stat one day than the other (similar to Xur’s inventory).
If you were unhappy with the day’s selection, you could also have the option to spend your tokens on a consumable that would provide a free rank-up, like how tokens are used to rank-up now.
The reward for each rank-up would change too, allowing you to choose whether it be armor or weapons, and perhaps either through normal play or with seasonal ranks you could progressively upgrade the level of your first rank-up reward for the week (Powerful Tier 1, 2, 3, then Pinnacle) and further narrow down which type of reward it is (Energy Weapon or Chest Armor, for example) thus allowing vendors to aid in Power Leveling once again though without the tediousness and monotony prior to Beyond Light.
That’s just me spitballing however. My true request is that this issue is just looked at.

DID SOMEONE SAY RANK UP BANNER?!?!??!!!?

Bungie substantially increased the drop rate of enhancement cores, you can get them from turning in tokens now (it's actually any time a legendary drops)
-
I've got many thousands of tokens for each vendor. The reason for that is there's absolutely no reason to use them whatsoever. I could stand there for a couple of hours turning them in and I guarantee I would delete every single item it gives me.
-
Agreed wholeheartedly. Only the vanguard has an actual number rank that you can see, but it’s basically meaningless. I wish all vendors had a numbered rank system in which there were weapons/armor or special quests that you get for reaching certain rank milestones, like at rank 50, 100 etc.
-
The whole "complete bounties to rank up" incentives selfish play and makes the game less fun to play.
-
I miss the rep system from d1. No carrying extra currency, just a fluid upgrade system.
-
The QoL change in D1 that we could choose between weapons or armour when we ranked up, they need to bring that back, I hate getting armour since non are ever 60 or above. If we could choose between armour, vendor loot and world loot that would be an awesome change.

Edited by Double07: 12/12/2020 8:06:34 PMThe token system was obviously a bad idea because Bungie recently nerfed it to not properly scale with your level due to players spamming tokens to get a tiny bit higher in their power level. Now, they're 100% underused.

Edited by Crota Prime: 12/12/2020 6:09:18 PMNever liked tokens, but I can see how they bring the vendor system a bit of order/organization.

I like the token system but more control would be nice. Like choosing to deposit them on armor or weapons. Like maybe have both tokens and XP so it would feel even more gratifying to play.
-
AMEN. It’s not immersive turning in tokens. Personally, it turns me off from even grinding the factions. I miss throwing on a specific class item and grinding out to get a chance at one of the sweet vendor weapons.
-
In general I think the rank up mechanic could and should be a lot deeper. Like you said I agree ranking up with a vendor should be natural like in Destiny 1 However I'd also like to see them expand it into a more RPG style, where Ranking up actually feels like you're climbing the ranks rather then filling a bar for the hundredth time. Give us dialogue, or have new stuff open up to us as we progress

Revert Factions to year 1 destiny 1 entirely. They were best then and never got better, only worse. The only exceptional is the ability to turn in materials to rank up and having some agency over rank up rewards each time (choosing between a weapon or an armor).

Edited by Yosemite Sam: 12/11/2020 8:44:19 PMIf they can't even give them a simple update as they should have that they haven't in over 2 years now. What makes anyone think they will rework any of them? There is nothing wrong with giving ideas but let's be real here. Bungie doesn't care and they haven't in 4 years now. Each year that goes by the vendors have gotten worse that most of them are totally useless in this game. They don't even use them as they were originally created for, you know, Amanda Holliday, what does she do? because I remember her actually being at least somewhat useful acquiring ships/sparrows in the first game, and out in the open world you would get schematics that would drop once in a while for a new ship.

This is how I think vendors should be fixed: 1. Replace tokens with reputation, for the love of God 2. Let you choose what gear you want from rank-up packages 3. Offer repeatable weapon/armor bounties OR have activity-specific loot on a daily rotation with a high drop rate, similar to Altars of Sorrow.
-
The only problem I foresee with rank up packages, when compared to tokens, is that there will likely be a limit to how many packages can be saved up, similar to the postmaster. Tokens only use a single slot in the inventory and it’s an inventory that, at this point, can’t really fill up. Due to content vaulting, there just aren’t enough items afaik for inventory space to be a concern here. I do agree that the rank ups are very much insignificant and should be jazzed up, more similarly to d1 and early seasons of d2... but better. Each rank used to be numbered, and gaining ranks would unlock the ability to use tokens to buy certain things. In this case, I think that by using crucible and vanguard rank up tokens, you should unlock universal ornaments of the previous season’s armor, as well as the option to trade more tokens for a random roll on a specific weapon or armor from that activity’s current loot pool. One ornament, weapon, or armor would become available at certain ranks (example, every 10 ranks unlocks the ability to buy with tokens a different ornament or weapon, no knockout lists). This way, you can zero in on what you want, but only after putting in the work. Sadly, each season would then need a new token set, and existing tokens would need to be deprecated on a seasonal basis.

I have no time to turn in the thousands of tokens I have.. I feel like a kid at chucky cheese with my freaking tickets getting something completely unrewarding for the time I spent enjoying my time in the game room. Drop the rewards at the time, during the carnage report like D1. At least that way I can delete the crap at the time.
-
About the only time I intentionally rank up a vendor is when I turn in enough crap for the Zavala triumph.
-
Yeah I started to realise the vendor stuff isn't worth it anymore. 😐

Bump ✊

I honestly wouldn’t mind if they just copied the DSC token system and put it in the core activities
