My sister has about fifteen chickens, all of which she has lovingly raised since they were little chicks. The most friendly of them come when she calls their names and stretch their necks over her shoulder when she kneels on the grass. Up until today, not a single predator has snatched a bird even though they’re free to roam around the yard during the day.
A hawk attacked the flock and my sister lost two of her hens. The rest of the birds scattered, so I rushed over to help her find them and bring them back to the safety of the coop. Each one we found ran away and even ignored their favorite snack when we offered it to them; however, by God’s grace, we rounded up all but one hen. We waited until sunset, hoping that Juney the hen would come home for the night, when we heard clucking from the house up the hill!
My sister knelt and called her name, and Juney quite literally ran straight into her arms! It was one of the most warming things I had seen in a long time. Even though all the other hens were too scared to follow my sister, Juney did not hesitate. We are still sad to lose two loved members of my sister’s flock, but this made it a lot easier to take in. I’m so thankful that we can receive joy (and sometimes hope) from our pets, even if it’s in something as simple as a chicken.

This made my day a little happier and fluffier.

Wait until Juney becomes a rebellious teen, won’t be running into any arms then. They grow up so fast, man.
I don’t have chickens. Or kids. So I wouldn’t know how fast things grow up. Also you have a good chicken pal.
I’m sorry, KFC doesn’t get these boys.

Good chicken! I'm glad Juney made it. The little guys become a part of the family. I don't have any chickens, but an aunt of mine does. We get eggs regularly, and they're very good.

My heart is melting! 🥺 My cousins raise a lot of chickens and other animals (it’s a veritable menagerie over there). Their chickens unfortunately suffer more casualties, it would seem, than the Germans at Verdun. Between all the predators we’ve got, redneck neighbors with pellet guns and a sick sense of humor, and other factors it seems they’re always holding little funerals for their feathered, furry, or fishy friends. My uncle succinctly summarizes the situation by shrugging and saying, “It’s a tough camp.” For our part we’ve avoided the casualties by sticking to easy critters like cats, dogs, and rabbits (which are simply adorable).
Sorry, all out of salt.
“Nobody told me the chickens could be so adorable!” -Starfire
Rest in peace to the two that got grabbed, though. :(
I've never- *wipes eyes* never heard of chickens like that.

My family has chickens too! Nothing like this happens though, the alpha rooster doesn't particularly like me.
